I have been experiencing the same thing lately. I am almost 2 years post-op (-194 lbs) and I have sharp pains that seem to travel throughout my side, back, and chest at sparatic times throughout the day. The pains go through phases of excruciating to just plain annoying, but nothing seems to help them when they occur. I have not pinpointed any kind of food or behavior that may be causing this and have wondered myself if I need to go to the doctor. I will definitely be checking back to read answers you receive!

Since it is sharp and stabbing, it's worth being checked. That's the area where you mmight feel a bowel obstruction and you can't reason with one of those. That's also where you'd feel diviticulitis, and at least that is fairly easily fixed. Either way, check it, don't guess. OK?

I have had similar pains although they are extremely short lived in nature. I have just assumed that they were gas pains. In answer to your question above - YES GO TO THE DOCTOR NOW!! If you are already taking strong pain killers and they are not helping then you need to find out what's wrong. Pain killers will only mask it - they won't fix it. So stop reading - pick up your purse and GO!

I am 2 1/2 years post; and have been having these pains 'off and on for a few months' mainly lower left side - Dr had not 'totally' diagnoised... but feels its "divirculitous' (spelling) ... anyways.. from the brochure I was given.. it might be.. I sure dont get 'fiber'...
