My first meeting with Dr. Dewitt was very reassuring that I have the right Doctor for the "job". He spent almost three hours with me. He got a complete medical (personal and family) history and explained the surgery in detail. He has a pre-surgery and post surgery plan that he expects you to follow. He stated he will do his part and I have to do my part. He not only ordered pre-surgery test, but went into great detail as to why he ordered these test. His office staff took care of all the insurance stuff and informed me with all the details. I am very pleased thus far with both Dr. Dewitt and his staff.

***Had consult today and he was as nice as ever. He did my gallbladder surgery last year. He's not as backed up as some surgeons, so I was able to get a date fairly quickly (6 weeks.) Would definitely recommend him.

Dr. DeWitt seems to be a very fun person, but also very caring. I chose him because he came highly recommended by my friends and doctors. I think that I was so nervous and afraid of denial when I first met him. He was kind and encouraging. He patiently answered all of my questions and some questions I didn't have. He took time to talk to my husband about any questions or reservations he had, as well. Dr. DeWitt seemed to be very experienced in the laproscopic precedure, but quickly explain that if an open procedere became necessary he would do so. I am quite pleased with our initial consultation. His nurse, Judy, has been especially nice and helpful anytime I've had to call. I did have a misunderstanding the receptionist about who was requesting my records, but when I realized it, Judy quickly stepped in to help. Judy was also very willing to talk to the nurses of my other doctors to coordinate medical info. My experience with Dr. DeWitt and his staff, thus far, has been a blessing.

I met with Dr. Dewitt on Feb 12th. I thought he was a very kind man. The visit was pleasant and he did not rush at all. He gave me time to ask questions and gave me all of the risks and benefits of this surgery. I did not have alot of questions because of all the research I have done and I had already been to another surgeon 4 months ago and believe that I am well informed. I had to change surgeons because of insurance issues. His nurse and other office staff was very friendly. He talked about the aftercare program and told me I would see a nutritionist before surgery. I would also follow up with him several times after surgery. Will update more after I see him again on March 1st.
POST OP: I am now post op and would recommend Dr. Dewitt to anyone considering this surgery. He is a very compassionate, christian man, with great bedside manner. He was always considerate and concerned about what I was going through...complications,pain,etc...and always did what he could to make things better, make me more comfortable, and most of all, get me well. I will always be grateful to Dr. Dewitt for saving my life. He also has a wonderful nurse, Judy, who is always willing to help. You can call her 10 times a day, and she is always friendly and helpful. In my book Dr. Dewitt and his staff are the BEST !

Dr. Dewitt was great pre-op and post-op. He doesn't have alot to say and he doesn't give alot of info, but if you have a question he will answer it. I was extremely impressed by his surgical care. He started antibiotics before I even got a sedative prior to surgery. I continued to receive antibiotics and blood thinners in the IV my entire hospital stay. He doesn't use the morphine pump that you read about. He used demerol for me. I would call every two hours for it and they would put it in the IV. He told me if the demerol wasn't enough he would get more for me. I didn't need extra pain medicine. The incision sites are minimal and they will appear as scratches when they heal. I am extremely impressed by this surgeon and would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. DeWitt is a fairly young, laid back man, who seems to enjoy his job, but does not think he is better than his patients because he is a doctor. I found him to be engaging, thorough, non-judgemental, and he has a great sense of humor. He was very encouraging during our screening, and was extremely patient, as my sister and I were screened together, and we both plastered him with questions. I would highly recommend him to anyone in the Central Alabama area. His staff is also very considerate and empathetic, and seem to be genuinely interested in their patient's well-being. I have not had any negative encounters with him or his staff, other than someone at his office giving me really bad directions to the office.

He was a nice person and easy to talk too. He knew his business and answer all of my questions, and didn't rush me and took time with me in the examing room as well as in his office. He even told me because of my weight as of today I had a strong chance of achiving my ideal weight. That was music to my ears. I did have to wait a long time to see him because he was have problem with another patience. He really stress aftercare and he want you to know everything out there. He even told me, he would give me names of patiences who have had good and bad experiences.

Dr. DeWitt was great!, He did a short Physical, blood Pressure, weight and height. Asked questions about history of weight problems and stuff I had tried in the past. The a friend of mine that is have the surgery also, was with me and we all 3 had a group conference and Amy had 30 questions for him. All of his answer were great.. He has been involved with open and lap. He has had great results.

His office staff was great Judy was very helpful and told me to call anytime if I had any other questons. Dr. DeWitt talked to us about the risk of the surgery and the risk of keeping the weight on.
