Dr.DeWitt was friendly and personable. I liked him right off. He was knowledgeable, yet not stuffy and egotistical. His nurse Judy was kind and efficient. They were very willing to answer any and all questions from me and my mom. I was made totally aware of the risks involved. I feel that I am in very competent hands.

My first visit with Dr. DeWitt was on April 1, 2002. I found Dr. DeWitt to be nice and friendly. He was, of course, very knowledgeable about bariatic surgery. He listened to my comments and concerns and made me feel at ease. I've been told by some of his post-op patients that he is a very competent surgeon and has a great bedside manner. I liked him and felt comfortable talking with him. His office staff members were polite and helpful.

I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. DeWitt and his staff. He has offices in Birmingham, Bessemer, and Centreville, Alabama. He and his staff are very caring, friendly, and competent.

I was concerned after the nurse at the hospital (when I did my pre-op stuff) told me that I was at a much higher risk to have the surgery open vs lap because I have had several previous abdominal surgeries. Dr. DeWitt's nurse reassured me that Dr. DeWitt almost never resorts to doing the surgery open even if it takes him an extraordinary amount of time.

He does not give as many detailed instructions for after care as some doctors, but I worked with a local nutritionist to ensure I was eating correctly after surgery.

I believe Dr. DeWitt's surgical competence and bedside manner are both phenomenal. He is one of the friedliest and most caring doctors I've ever used. My incisions seemed to be smaller and heal quicker than those of other wls patients who used other doctors.

I had my consultation with Dr. DeWitt on February 27th. He is a really nice dr. The office is really nicely decorated and clean. That really means a lot to me. Dr. DeWitt answered all of my questions, my Mother had a ton of questions, and he willingly answered all of them.

My only "personal negative experience" was that I didn't like that you have to lpay $150 for your consultation. I could see it for people who are unsure about your insurance, but my insurance even faxed me a form saying that they will pay for my initial consultation 100% except for my co-pay. But, I guess that I will get reimbursed soon enough.

I absolutely love Dr. Adkins. He is very informative about weight loss surgery. He answered all my questions and reassured me about other things I might have read or heard about. His nurse, Stacie, is sweet as well. She is very helpful. Well, Dr. Adkins called the other day to say that he reconsidered about doing the surgeries. He said he was not getting enough support from his partners as for as aftercare on his nights off with his WLS patients. So I am now in the process of seeing a Dr. Dewitt in Birmingham. I have never met him nor have I heard anything about him. I will let you know after the meeting. Well I met with Dr. DeWitt and I was really impressed with his knowledge about WLS. I hope things will get rolling from here on out.

I liked him alot. On the first visit he encouraged questions and talked to me a long time about the surgery. Of course, I was just so excited that I made it that far. Getting the appointment and having my surgery was so fast. I expected it to take longer. I was afraid that I wasn't unhealthy enough for Blue Cross to approve it, but my first appointment was 1/19/02, my surgery was approved in two weeks and my surgery is scheduled for 2/22/02.
I liked his office staff and I know I will get to know them better after the surgery. I have total confidence in Dr. DeWitt. I don't think I will be disappointed after the surgery by him or his staff but will see soon enough. I know several people that have used him and they all like him.

12/14/01 Got an
appointment for consult with him today for 1/9/02. Not much to say about him yet, except the receptionist seemed eager to please!!
1/10/02 Had my consult yesterday, and he put me at ease the moment he walked thru the door. He's very down to earth, and relaxed. I felt like I had known him for a long time, after my visit was over. He was also very confident in his
abilities, admitting he felt he was very good at this surgery. He explained the surgeries good and bad qualities, and then asked if I had questions. He explained everything I needed to know. He left me feeling like I could be as open as I wanted to be with him. His office staff were extremely sweet, his nurse Judy was warm and and seemed very conscientious. So far I really haven't felt anything bad about the
experience. The consult was extremely easy and went smooth. I did happen to notice that were alot of files in stacks just sitting around the office. It looked messy, and I wondered how they could find anything. However, Judy seemed to know where everything was, so that was good. Now I'm waiting on insurance approval. For the most part, I rate surgical
competence higher than bedside manner, but Dr. D seems to have both. I am happy that I chose him. 1/19/02 I got my approval and date in only 4 short days. January 25th is the day!! Judy has been very helpful with all my questions, and instructions for my pre-ops. Its getting closer!!
