Dr. Brengman performed my vertical sleeve gastrectomy October 10, 2011. Everything has gone perfectly. I would recommend his office to anyone seeking a bariatric surgeon. In fact, my wife had a VSG with Dr. Brengman December of 2013. Her surgery also went off without a hitch. His bedside manner is excellent. His team is attentive and very helpful. I credit his work with enabling me to reach my goal and I've maintained for a year after 240 lbs. Highly recommended.

Dr. Schroder is a wonderful Doctor and I would send anyone to him for WLS. He has been right there with me through everything and his staff is just as friendly. I have never had a problem with making appointments at his office like most.
Dr. Schroder is the best WLS surgeon in the state and you would be crazy not to have him as your Doctor.

I learned about Dr. Schroder from a nurse at work who had received a LapBand from him. As far as I am concerned he is the best in Richmond. He has a fantastic insurance billing specialist who is knowledgable about insurance requirements and is relentless with follow through. His pre-op process was very thorough and so far his post-op follow up has been outstanding. I did have a pain issue while he was out, but his associates took me seriously and followed through until it was resolved. My nurse in the hospital is active in the support groups and invited me to attend. I would highly recommend him for any WLS based on my experience.

I think Dr. B is a GREAT Doc. He takes his time with you, listens to you and doesn't rush you at your visits. He explained everything to me and my mother and is very upfront about things you should or shouldn't be doing. I had the(VSG)Sleeve done on 4-23-12 and I'm 2 weeks post-op. I'm doing well and he has me on the right path. I would recommend him to anyone that is thinking about having WLS. However the office has changed their phone system and that really sucks and most time going into his office you have to wait past your apt time but then again who doesn't wait at any other office!

I may have spoken too soon when I wrote my original review in November 2011 because EVERYTHING has taken a turn for the worse. BEFORE having surgery in January 2012 with Dr. Schroder, I was treated like a PERSON by him and his staff. The nicest/most respectful person in his office was/is Genine. I have NOTHING negative to say about her because she ALWAYS does what she says she's going to do and she NEVER leaves you hanging.

After having surgery, I began to experience extreme chest pain whenever I swallowed anything. I followed my discharge instructions to a T, contacting his office because my pain wasn't helped with medications AND because I didn't lose weight for 5 straight weeks after the 2nd week following surgery. My complaints weren't taken seriously, almost like it was unimportant. The nurse, Sharon, told me that my pains came from the hiatal hernia repair I had during surgery. I told the dr this when I came in for my visit in January and he denied it. I was prescribed more meds that didn't work & I ended up having an EGD the 2nd week of March. Nothing was found that would cause my chest pain, so when I went to see the dr yesterday, he had an "O well, I don't care" attitude. I asked him WHY my chest was still hurting and he simply said, "I don't know why it's hurting because everything is going down ok". Uh, hello??? What did you do to me during surgery because I didn't have this issue before I was put to sleep on 1/17 for surgery???? I can't get any answers.

And his newest thing that just started when I saw him the first week of March and on yesterday is coming into the examination room for 7 seconds (enough time for him to ask how u are & u to answer quickly), he gets up and says "hold on, give me a sec" and NEVER COMES BACK!!!!! This has happened TWICE and this is the most unprofessional thing I've ever had to deal with. Each time, the nurse comes in after he's been gone awhile and tells me to take care while I'm sitting there in awe because he never comes back. I mean, I am starting to feel like I'm being PUNK'D. It's not funny though because I am barely losing weight, I can barely eat, and I'm getting no answers/resolution to this chest pain issue!!!! He smugly told me that I could have an EKG & chest X-ray if I wanted...HUH??? What are those 2 things gonna do for diagnosing an issue with my esophagus? How dumb does he think I am???

Because of that, I have decided that I am NEVER going back to his office. He is getting paid for being in a room with me for 7-10 SECONDS and I am not being helped in any kind of way. Obviously, I am just a number now and the people he's trying to get to have surgery are the most important. I know this for a fact just from hearing his THOROUGH visit through the wall with a new patient 30 minutes before he saw me!!!!!!!!

WARNING: If you like to have to call a dr's office 15x in a row just to have a receptionist answer the phone to make (or possibly NOT make) an appt for you...go there. If you want to leave the hospital with MORE issues than u went there with and NOT have them be resolved...go there. If you want to be a NUMBER to them and NOT a person...go there. Just don't say you weren't warned. Lord knows, I wish someone would have warned ME!!! Now, I have to hope/pray that someone will accept me as their patient after having surgery with him. *crossing my fingers*

I transferred to Dr. Schroder after having a bad experience with a different surgeon's office. My first appointment was on 11/1/11 and I really enjoyed meeting him. He was nice and so was his staff. The only thing I had a problem with was the fact that I had to complete and additional PRE-OP nutrition eval when my insurance requirements were already complete. This happened because they are a "Center for Excellence".

I just got my surgery date today & I can't wait to start this journey to a new ME!! Before my surgery date, I am required to take a 4 hour nutritional information class and physical/blood work. I'm sooooo excited!!

I first selected Dr. Matthew Brengman simply because of his name. I'm not really sure why. Then after meeting him, I was really glad that I selected him. He is very nice, doesn't mind explaining all of the details. The staff was very knowledgeable and informative. They really know their stuff. I have received so much information on each type of surgery and both it's benefits and disadvantages. Dr. Brengman called me and discussed my options with me. I'm looking forward to the surgery and to working with him and his staff.

We are not off to the best with the staff, but Dr. Brengman was very pleasant and willing to answer my questions. It is still early. let's see how the surgery goes.rnrnSurgery went well, no pain, and I am very pleased. Dr. Bregnman was caring enough to stay late to visit his patiens and back in the next morning to do the same. I was also seen by his PA and a member of his staff called to check on me.

I have attended one seminar so far and I really like this doctor. I am waiting on blood work to come back to see if I have a co-morbidity so my insurance will cover this.rnrn1/22/08 - I have been approved! I am now waiting for the call to schedule my surgery.rnrnI was approved after my first letter. The dr's office had experiences where a comorbidity was needed with a BMI over 40. Not the case for me. I have the beginnings of a few, but not full blown yet. I also have UHC Insurance.
