3/7/01 Will meet with Dr. Kirkland tomorrow.
3/8/01 Well, I met with Dr. Kirkland. He is AWESOME! He answered all of my questions before I could even ask them. In fact, he answered questions that I hadn't even thought of. He was a wealth of information. On a scale of 1 to 10, my first impression of him is that he is a 10!

I WILL BE MEETING DR KIRKLAND ON 2-27-01 FOR THE FIRST TIME. MET WITH DR KIRKLAND HE WAS PLEASENT AND FRENDLY I WOULD LIKED IF HE HAD MORE TIME TO TALK WITH ME BUT I COULD SEE FROM THE WAITING AREA THAT HE IS VERY BUSY OFFICE STAFF WAS VERY NICE THEY TOOK TIME SAT AND TALKED WITH ME MADE ME FEEL GOOD ABOUT BEING THERE FUTURE PATIENTS SHOULD NOT EXPECT DR KIRKLAND TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME WITH YOU. NOW I AM WAITING FOR INSURENCE APPROVAL. WILL POST AGAIN WHEN THEY GET BACK TO ME.

Dr Kirkland was very friendly, very busy. He took the time to explain to me all about the procedure
he even used visual aids. He was very insistant for me to have very realistic expections about the procedure and how it will change my life eating habits and othewise along with
Weightloss expectations and with approval, I'm on my way!
He is professional and knowledgeable and quite at ease about the whole thing which is helpful for his patients.

Liked him immediately, had confidence in him, 3rd dr I interviewed. Geat staff, very kind. I wish he had an aftercare program but he does not.He explained the risk of infection. I believe competence is more important than bedside manner.

my first impression about the doctor was wonderful. He was upfront about the whole procedure told me about all the risks then the benefits. He didn't seem as if I was wasting his time he spent 35 min. with me on the first visit. His office/staff was also great I waited to be seen 5 min. everyone was pleasent and willing to help.

I only visited with Dr. Kirkland once before surgery and I got a very good impression of him. He is very professional and knows exactly what he is doing. My only regret is not asking any questions thinking that I knew all the answers. I unfortunatly didn't know about this sight until after I had the surgery. Boy did I realize that I knew absolutly NOTHING about this surgery. Dr. Kirkland did not give me much information about after care or nutrition, but he made it very clear that doing this surgery for weight loss was not his specialty. He normaly does this for cancer patients. He did tell me that the risk factors were very low especially since I was in very good health, besides the weight. I would rate Dr. Kirkland and his team of surgeons an 8 out of 10 there was only 1 doctor in his team that I did not like at all. His sugical competence is excellent as well as bedside manner, he is a very compationate person.

Dr. Williams was extremely nice and informative prior to the surgery. He took his time and explained all the risks and benefits of both the VBG and the Gastric Bypass though I had the impression he preferred to do the VBG. His office staff and residents were very nice as well. The day of the surgery and afterwards, my personal experience has been somewhat different with him. I did not see my Dr. at all the day of the surgery which was a little disconcerting and now that I have had the surgery I feel somewhat abandoned. The response time from him and his office to questions and issues that come up is extremely slow. He is associated with a support group through the University of Penn which he briefly mentioned during my initial consultation. My first post op visit was roughly 3 minutes long 10 days after the surgery. He said that he did not need to see me for another 3 months. These are only my personal experiences and I am not making any statements about what others may or may not experience. Second post op visit was much better. The doctor took some time to answer all of my post-op questions. Given my conversations with other weight loss patients and the post op pain that they deal with I must say that Dr. Williams must be an excellent surgeon as my post-op pain was minimal.

Dr. Williams... He's at Penn. I think he's great. He answered all my questions. He made me relax and he treated me with dignity. I feel like I am in good hands.
