My first impression of Dr. Quaid was that he seemed genuinely interested in me and my reasons for surgery. He talked about the surgery, possible complications, etc. (which I already knew a great deal about through this website), but more importantly, he LISTENED to me. He addressed all of my questions and concerns.

Dr. Quaid seems to be very intelligent and take his work seriously. He exudes an air of quiet competence. He has a ready smile. He always answers questions clearly and carefully. He always asks if there are any more questions. He seems to want his patients to be well educated. After meeting him, I had no qualms at all about him as my surgeon.

Dr. Quaid's nurse, Becky is absolutely wonderful. She goes through an initial education process with new patients, before they meet with Dr. Quaid. She also stopped in the hospital after my surgery to reinforce what I had learned. She is very upbeat about the surgery, but lets you know that surgery is only the beginning. It is up to you to develop the habits and adhere to the lifelong requirements for the new, healthier you.

There was nothing I did not like about Dr. Quaid. I was very impressed with him. He visited with me before surgery, after surgery, twice the next day, and once the third day to release me from the hospital. He always seemed cheerful, kind and caring.

His surgical practice has an support program. Unfortunately, I live about 75 miles away and will probably not be able to take advantage of many sessions.

He requires patients to see him about 10-14 days, six weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and one year after surgery. Then, he wants to see you annually thereafter. If you happen to move from the area, they still want you to keep in touch because bloodwork should be done annually.

All in all, I could not recommend Dr. Quaid more highly.

I have moved and now see Dr. Stiener in Lexington, KY.

10/2004 Dr. Robert Quaid and all the staff at Northern Colorado Surgical Associates are the most professional, nicest, kindness, and show true concern for their patients. When I first met Dr. Quaid right away I was comfortable because he is just so nice and personable. He talks to you, explains everything, and answers questions. The office staff was nice and helpful when I would call and needed something. I would highly recommend this surgical office to everyone seeking Bariatric Surgery. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate them a 20.

Prior to surgery I went to two of their monthly support group meetings. Let me tell you from the patients alone anyone would get the impression that they made the right surgical team decision, I know I did. They really show their appreciation of how well all the doctors took care of them by how highly they talk about them. And, talk about being helpful, the other patients give all kinds of helpful tips on what helped them. Each group has one of the surgeons who performs the surgery from the office speak and answer questions. So, you know the information you get is first hand right from the doctors themselves. I would recommend everyone who is thinking about having the procedure done come to one of these support group meetings and meet everyone.

I first met Dr. Quaid on December 2, 2003. (There's a long waiting list.) He was quiet, but sincere. I've researched WLS for 13 years and am also a registered nurse so, of course, I felt like I already knew it all and was so excited I just wanted to get on with scheduling a surgery date. Never the less, he took his time in explaining things and laid out the risks and benefits for me. Before the M.D. consult, I met with Becky, his office nurse, for the basic vital sign check and then attended an hour long educational session with a video about the procedure. They stress follow up care and sponsor a once a month support group held in Ft. Collins. I am impressed with their care, compassion and concern so far. I work with women who have had this procedure through Northern Colorado Surgical Associates and one in particular who had Dr. Quaid perform her Lap RNY. She has nothing but wonderful things to say about him. I feel confident. I'll update again once I'm "on the other side" of WLS.

September 30, 2004. I'm almost 5 months post-op and updating as promised. I'm just as impressed and happy with Dr. Quaid and his office as I was pre-op. The office staff is professional and friendly and I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes. Dr. Quaid never makes me feel rushed, is thorough, answers all questions and seems to be genuinely concerned about my WLS experience. I've not had any complications related to my surgery and feel his surgical competence and his bedside manner are "A+" excellent.

Dr. Quaid was very pleasent and honest. He is very complete with all of your questions and examination.
I still feel the same way
The office staff is wonderful. They never treat you like a stranger. They have my full interest whenever, I have an appointment.
Dr. Quaid speaks very softly.
He is one of the most kindest doctors I have ever experienced (except for my family doctor).
Very much. The office requires that you either live or get a hotel room or stay at a friends or family member within 2 hours of the office. This way if you have any problems after surgery you are very close to the doctor or hospital. We are also required to go in for a monthly check after our 2 week check and then on a monthly to six weeks basis after that. This way the doctors are able to make sure you are eating properly and we also have a once a month support group on the last Monday of each month.
Dr. Quiad and his staff are very straight forward when it comes to the risks. They do let you know that there is a chance of dying during surgery. Especially if the patience does not tell the whole truth about their medical history.
Both bedside and surgical are considered equal. When I was in the hospital Dr. Quaid was very polite and explained things that could happen after surgery. The hospital staff was just as wonderful. The patiences that have a gastric bypass are trained to make you feel as comfortable as possible. The nurses tended to my every need. Even when it was time to walk (which is a couple hours after surgery) they were very pleasent. I could have stay longer just for the care I was receiving.

Let me say that my first impression of Dr. Quaid was a very positive one, and it hasn't changed one bit since my surgery. His office staff are all remarkable. I am always treated very well during my visits. I have to say there is nothing I don't like about Dr. Quaid or his office staff. He is an excellent physician who emphasizes aftercare at every visit. I was given a book that details a structured diet and includes much more information to answer most any question that might arise after surgery. I felt Dr. Quaid and his team addressed all risks of surgery thoroughly, and I was comfortable with proceeding. Dr. Quaid exhibits excellent surgical competence and his friendly bedside manner is a plus. I will definitely refer anyone wishing to have this surgery to Dr. Quaid. I have to finish by saying doctors save peoples' lives, but Dr. Quaid and other doctors that perform the gastric bypass go one step further. They not only save lives, but they give a person the chance at a better life...a life worth living...a healthy life!

Dr.Quaid is all business and very professional.
He also has cold hands! He warms up to you eventually
and I have felt very fortunate in having him and also
have a lot of confidence in him. He is quiet but
very intelligent and he convinced me that eating slowly and
eating small bites was my keys to success. So far it is working.
His office is extremely professional and they addressed all my concerns
thoroughly. Overall - I give him and his office very high marks.
On my last post-op visit he was all smiles at my progress
and that really made me feel good!
Updated Spring 2004 - I had my two year appt with Dr. Quaid and still enjoy him and am happy that he was my surgeon. Anybody who has him will be pleased, in my opinion.

Dr. Quaid seemed very reserved and quiet at our first meeting. Also very up front about the risks of having surgery.

My impression has not changed.

His staff is very friendly and helpful and knew my name even though I am from out of state.

He is soft spoken which is difficult for me since I have a bit of hearing loss.

He really is a very conscientious doctor willing to error on the side of caution. Example: He usually does not insert drains but because there was just a tiny spot of dye on a surgical sponge, he inserted the drain. Luckily there was no leak but living with the drain was much better than going through another surgery.

He emphasizes aftercare alot.

Because I was an out of state patient, I was unable to leave the area for at least a week post surgery "just in case". He also requires that I come back to him for the first year for follow-up visits.

He addressed the risks of surgery very straightforwardly stating that because of my size surgery of any kind was a risk and carefully going over with both my husband and I what he would do and the possible complications.

I would rate him a Super A+. His surgical competence and bedside manner where both terrific.

met Dr. Quaid in February 2002. My first thoughts were that he was informative and thorough. He is compassionate and patient, and seems very personable. I was on a waiting list for almost 7 months, I found the office staff to be helpful and pleasant. Dr. Quaid was upfront about the complications and risks of the surgery. I feel confident with him as my surgeon. May 19th I am now 6 days post-op, and I can safely say that Dr. Quaid is totally awesome!! I felt so secure and confiedent with him doing this surgery, his office staff is also completly helpful. If you live in Colorado or near by, I would recommend him and the Poudre Valley Hospital to anyone, my experience there and with him was great, everything I could have asked for. I just read the bottom of this page and it says no one can be the best, well, I think that Dr. Quaid is the best!!
