My sister swears by Optimum Nutrition Whey protein.. She mixes 3/4 cup chocolate with 1/4 vanilla and blends with 15 oz. milk. Then stores it in a pitcher in the fridge.. drinks 8 oz at a time for 40 grams of protein.. I cannot use whey protein it causes me to dump... ick... I like the Spiru-tein protein drinks.. my favorites are chocolate-peanutbutter or banana. I blend them with milk and ice and they make a yummy smoothie. I get 23 gms protein per shake plus whatever the milk adds... You can buy the Spiru-tein in samples to test the different flavors. I also use a tasteless soy protein by Gen-Soy that I like blended with ice in fruit juice... 25 gms protein per serving. However fruit juice is a source of empty calories ... I do not dump on sweets or fruits so I enjoy one blended with orange or apple juice every once in awhile for a change of pace. These brands would be available through a health food store.. you can always call around ahead of time to see who has what.... Also GNC will let you return something if you buy it and don't like it.

Hi Tina, I am 7 weeks post-op (open RNY 8/12/03). I am eating soft diet still. Have tried some things that I have to CHEW, but have gone very slow at it. Drinking lots of water and walking. So far I am down 60lbs. Good luck to you. -Karin

Congratulations, Jennifer! That is great. I feel like such a pig compaired to you. My surgeon requires us to eat 6 small meals a day. I usually force myself to eat 5. If I drop below 5 I am in trouble. I wish I knew why surgeons don't require all Gastric By-Pass patients to eat the same amounts. It would make life so much easier...lol.
Take Care,
Maria

Marie...I have heard the Designer Whey Protein is great. I bought another kind at GNC. I have had 2 protein drinks out of it and can't stand the taste. It is way to sweet for me, and leaves a nasty after taste in my mouth....YUK! Let me know if you find oune you like.
Take Care,
Maria

I like the EAS Advant Edge dark chocolate shakes. They have 15 g protein, 3 g carbs and 4 g fat. I actually turn them into a remade Starbucks Frappachino - I dump the shake into my blender, add protein powder or calcium (I use Procel and UpCal D supplements), a heaping teaspoon of Folgers decaf instant coffee crystals, about a teaspoon of Splenda, and then I blend until well blended. Then I add about 2-3 cups of crushed ice, and blend again. Instant bypass friendly Mocha Frappachino. It tastes pretty good and takes about 2 hours to drink, so keeps me full.
They're about $5- $6 at most grocery stores - I pick mine up at Walmart. They are in a silver box type thingy with purple accents, in the nutrition/vitamins aisle, usually. In the grocery store they're in the diet/natural foods aisle.

I have been using beneprotein. It is a flavorless powder that can be added to cold or hot liquids. It can also be added to soft foods. I was unable to find a protein shake I could tolerate which is why I am using beneprotein. It has 6 grams of proteins in on scoop. I usually add 2 scoops so I get 12 grams. I got this at Walgreens.
Good Luck.
