Keep in mind that your first week you actually had gained weight from the iv's in the hospital. I had gained 5 lbs. total on the day I was dismissed from the hospital. On my 1st week I had lost 12 lbs. Keep in mind however that 5 of that was liquid from the iv's. This Thursday, Sept. 4 will be 1 month post op and according to my scales I've lost a total of 27 lbs. so far. I wouldn't worry if it's not coming off as fast as you expected. As long as it's coming off that's the main thing. Keep up the good work.

nobody should sweat--you are so full of fluids from the surgery and teh IV and everybody drops those at different rates. That initial loss is a lot of water anyway, but it will come!!!! Sometimes in inches not lbs.

I don't know how much you weigh, your BMI, or hopw much your life has been soured or limited by morbid obesity, but I had surgery 8/18 and I am very glad. It is quite difficult immediately after any surgery, and the very slow return to eating real food is a drag. But the weight melts and each day you are a little stronger and closer to the life you always wanted. Trust in your surgeon and the hospital staff and trust in yourself that you have thought long and hard about this decision. Going forward is the only way to have a new life for those of us who are morbidly obese and have been for a long time. Trust in the possibilityof change. My thoughts will be with you.

Denise I checked in to post this exact question. I have lost a little more then you 12lbs in 2 weeks ( 6 lbs a week ) but I was expecting to lose at least 15lbs after reading others stories also. I have been eating just 3 meals a day. I get full before I even eat 1/4th of a cup of food. I have been walking 2x a day for 2o minutes each time. I am getting frustrated. i know they say each person is different but I was really hoping to lose the weight faster. It is hard enough not being able to eat the foods that you want but then when you are not losing weight it gets extremely frustrating. I haven't lost anything in the last 2 days. I am hoping it begins to come off quicker but right now I am beginning to wonder why I did this if it is not going to work. When did you have your surgery? Jennifer

Hi Dzondria, I had surgery on the 29th of August and came home on the 31st. The day after surgery, I was thinking "What have I done?" But I'm feeling much better and it's only been 3 days. I had open rny (woods-sapala micropouch). I couldn't get any sleep at first. I had the nurse to give me something and I was feeling just fine. It's totally normal for you to be feeling this way. I will tell you to just be encouraged and believe that it will all be over soon. Just make sure that this is what you really want to do because this is a total lifestyle change. I'm sure you'll do just fine. If you have any questions just email me. Nikki

So far so good. I'm not regretting the surgery yet. I'm still excited.

Hi AMOS brother and sisters, first of all I like to thank each and everyone again for all the prayers and encouraging words. It is so amazing how much support we are receiving from fellow WLS buddies and future WLS buddies. I am so grateful for all of you. It has been exactly 1 week ago, since I had the surgery. I feel so much better. Unfortunately I had quite a bit of pain, because due to surgery my other conditions like to flare up, but it's all worth it. Yesterday I even took my boys to church for the first time. Went early, needed to catch up on some things and stayed a total of 4 hours. For being out for the first time, I felt it was wonderful. The pain is almost gone. Praise God. Everyday I feel better. I even slept well in my bed last night. Made myself sleep in bed a few times at least for a few hours, but seems like last night I got a good rest. And even woke up in the morning with hardly any pain. My angel Lori Persick is having surgery next Monday 09/08/03. She is so ready for it. Please keep her in your prayers. Wednesday i am going in for my first post-op appointment. Staples should come out and the JP-Drain. Yeah! So I will only have the G-Tube left for about another month. I'm actually getting used to it. My son had a G-tube for the first 5 years of his life, who am I to complain about a month, plus it really helps relief some of the pressure in the old stomach. Hope I did not bore you all too much. Really excited i can sit on the computer and write comfortably again. Have been reading a lot on the site the last few days, but not posted much. I better get with the program as Lori is nearing her surgery date. LOL LOVE You All! Marion

My sugery was July 25th 2003...Surgery went well and Dr. Dimarco was great. Don't have any problems with food just need to eat very slowly. I'm just having problems with being very very tired and some depression. Sometimes I sleep between 12-15 hours a day. I have an apt with the doctor on wednesday and will address these problems. I have lost a total of 25 pounds in 3 weeks and have 125 more to go. Seems like an impossable goal but I'm gonna do it!!!!

Nine days to go and I'm nesting (getting ready). Have laid in a stock of Chicken Broth, SugarLess Popsicles, Atkins Power Shakes, Tums, Flintstone Vitamins, and Sugar Free Jello. Plan to use three Club Soda bottles (33.8 oz. each) for my daily measured dose of H2o. What else do I need?
