Hi all, I am looking for profiles of members who have had open RNY surgery between the ages of 58-60. My mother is looking into surgery and is not computer literate and wanted to know how people in this age range are during surgery, recovering from surgery, and how their weight loss progresses. Thanks for your help and sharing your profile! Christie

Hi everyone! My surgery date was aug 8, 2004. I am now 204 from 330. I am size 14 pants. I haven't lost in months and months. The first 100 just FLEW OFF! I am trying to remember the simple formula of calories in/calories out. I exercise, but to tell the truth, it doesn't seem to matter much. I seem like I have been here forever. (But I'm not complaining!) I stopped losing when I started to focus more on protien intake. I now try to get 65 grams a day, up from getting about 15, which was not nearly enough! I think that much of my previos wieght loss was muscle, and not necessairly fat. My stomach is still big, but my thighs have gotten smaller. I'm not too worried about losing wieght right now...just keeping the muscle that I have. I have to admit, I'm not crazy about my shape (apple) and my legs look too small for my body. My skin has taken a beating, but over-all, I happy that I have regained such terrific health and focus on self-care. I keep trying to tell myself not to worry about "goal wieght". My body is doing a pretty good job of deciding what the "goal" is.....Best wishes to you, my fellow butterflies!!!! Love, Avalon

Wow! You are definitely not alone. I had my surgery 8/16/04, and I am 19 months post-op and haven't gone down since September. I am up and down the same 15 lbs. and it is so frustrating. I'm so far from goal, and feel like an absolute failure. I started out at 359 and depending on the day I've been as low as 229, today I'm 233. I want to lose another 50-70 lbs, and feel like I never will. I am happy that I had the surgery, but at the same time feel the same desperation right now as I did prior to surgery. I guess I'm destined to be obese. I feel like crying on a daily basis, no matter what I do, I FAIL.

Right now I am 11 weeks pregnant and still holding at 156 pounds....I know that the weight will come, but this pregnancy I won't be living at McDonald's so hopefully it will take a little while.(Hee,Hee) Hope you like the picture's. I had my surgery 8/31/04, and I lost 120#'s in the first 9 months - AND NOTHING SINCE! I still could lose 10 or 15, however, I am very happy at 170, size 12. No, it's not skinny, but my body was always pretty voluptuous and I feel good right where I'm at. Now, however, is the struggle with emotional eating, as everything goes down so easy anymore! Corina

That`s awesome. I made it to 134. My original goal was 140 at 5'6" but then I have never made it below 134. I seem to go 135-138 now. I still use 134 as my lowest though as I was there. LOL... I still follow my plan pretty carefully but I do eat a lot larger meal now. I guess maintaining is the thing now. I see I wrote my stats backwards. Alice Lap RNY 8-26-04 311/302/134/140
