Kristina, you've lost so much, and yet you are feeling unsuccessful. Don't forget, this board is only a small sample of the people that post at Obesity Help. Maybe one of the other message boards would be more helpful. I hope you find the support you need. Wishing you ongoing success.

Kristina , I was a lightweight but I just want to tell you I think you've had HUGE success. I know with having knee, hip and back problems still, you'd be feeling disappointed, but look how far you've come! Look at Amy Williams and dame Tooter's profiles for inspiration. Maybe your support group or WLS surgeon could recommend a physical therapist for you to get an excercize program that you could benefit from? Good luck to you! Hugs, barb

Topic: RE: PS covered by insurance?
Hi Norma. I really don't have many skin issues as far as chaffing or rashes so have no reason to expect our insurance would cover it. We have a ps exclusion anyway with BC/BS of Missouri. They wouldn't cover my WLS so I doubt they'd cover anything to do with plastics even if I did have problems. I had a neck/face lift and pre-lbl lift debulking in August. I think the bill was about $19,00.00. I will be having my second round ( breast-lift w/o implants and brachiotomy-armlift) at the end of January, and a lower body lift sometime in the spring. These will be another $19,000.00. I'm 54 so my skin is most likely not as elastic as you younger girls and my face was my biggest issue. I looked SO haggard after the 130 lb. weightloss. I could keep my body covered w/ clothes but there was nothing I could do about my face so they did that first. I'm pretty happy with the results. If you'd like to see pictures you can go to 'picturetrail-nanabb-plastic surgery album-my password is ps. I haven't posted any px in the last month or so but my face is healing more and more each month. Almost all the numbness is gone as well as bruising. The liposuction to my midrift and back ares was slower to heal and much more painful than the facelift OR weightloss surgery. Best~barb

I gained five pounds as well. I wonder if that's the amount of sodium in a portion of turkey w/ dressing and gravy and the water we gained with it? I'm pretty much back on track now and down to my pre-Thanksgiving weight again. I still get shocked when I go shopping. Unfortunately, I'm blown away when I fit into a small or a size 6-8. I think I need to buy everything that fits. I hope I haven't traded one obsession for another. Best of luck to all of us during the holidays & keep up those workouts! Hugs, barb

I had my surgery on August 9, 2004. I weighed 496lbs the day of surgery. I now weigh 314 lbs. I can't lose any more. I have severe knee, hip and back problems that stop me from exercising. I don't eat alot but more than I did right after surgery. I know I need to get back to basics. Did anyone start out over 400lbs, close to 500lbs and get at about 150lbs to 180lbs. Please write me and let me know.

Topic: RE: A question about sleep apnea
Hi Rachel, Do the sleep study. I had undiagnosed sleep apnea and went into surgery. when the procedure was over they woke me up, then i completely stopped breathing. I ended up on a vent for over a week, and believe me, i was very lucky to be alive. the docs had a hard time getting me off the vent, every time they tried my throat would close up. They thought i was gonna end up on life support. Then a month later , i woke up and had a terrible breathing attack...i was rushed by ambulance being resussitated and put on a vent again. I was in a coma for four days and on the vent for a week....the scariest time of my life. Please, do the sleep study...i know it's a pain in the butt, but be safe. anesthesia and sleep apnea mixed is deadly! Hugs Linda

Topic: RE: A question about sleep apnea
Hey Rachel. This could be a serious problem. I had sleep apnea before WLS, but I was shocked that I had it! My husband (also obese) has suffered with it for many years, and I FINALLY got him to see a doctor and have a sleep study. He bought a CPAP, and after using it regularly, my own sleep improved, but it wasn't fully restful. It wasn't until later when I had my own sleep study done that it was discovered that I also had sleep apnea. Here's a link for more information about sleep apnea: http://www.sleepapnea.org/resources/brochure.html Only a doctor can tell you if you might have it....and only an overnight sleep study will give that doctor the complete results they need to form your best course of treatment. If you are lucky, your insurance may pick up 100 percent of this procedure. The sleep study is painless and easy. It's like staying over night in a hotel room----only your hooked up to monitors and someone watches you on a camera all night and monitors your vitals, etc. You can liken it to being in ICU but with no pain. If your insurance only pays 80 percent, then you'll have to fork out about $400+, and you may have to have two complete sleep studies before your neurologist can make an accurate prediction about your treatment options. If you DO have OSA (obstructive sleep apnea), you will probably have to use a CPAP or similar machine. Take your time and do your research. Talk to others who have machines. Find the mask that best works for you and your sleeping habits. You'll need something that WORKS and is comfortable because you will need to wear this thing every night without fail. I guarantee you that for your trouble, you will not regret it. It will make a tremendous difference in your life if you are fully rested and your brain is getting all the oxygen it needs at night when you rest. You will feel years younger and many people say it's like waking up from a 20-year nap! I think you'll discover the same. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. ~Laura
