This is probably too easy of a solution for you, but I take one benadryl and two tylenol before I go to sleep every night. It works like a charm. I still use my oxygen even though I've lost 127 lbs. I guess I'm just afraid not to use it, but one day soon I'm going to try sleeping without it and see what happens.
Hope you find a cure for your insomnia. That could really be the pits to not be able to sleep.

I didn't think your question was nosy at all!
At this point, I am receiving "state" disability, as I was a state employee prior to becoming disabled. In Oklahoma, the only state sponsored medical assistance is for individuals receiving social security disability. Once my application for SSD gets approved, then I'd be eligible for state medical. . . but until then, there are no programs for me.
I've looked at other states, and I think that almost every other state has medical for disabled people while awaiting SSD. . but not Oklahoma. SUCKS!!!
Once I start feeling better, I am going to go on a mass campaign to contact legislators and implore them to pass legislation to help disabled people in my situation.

Jo,
Sorry to hear you are being so itchy. I've had some dry skin...mainly on my shins. I was told that post-ops have more dry skin due to us not eating the fats we use to..and fats puts moisture into the skin. I used alot of intensive care lotion, and it's pretty much under control now.

Susan,
The info I've learned about KBS is from a local site, WLSIndy.com. Several on the board has had it and all at 18 months+ post-op. From it, I also learned that the extra stitches were starting to be used ~May 2004 to prevent KBS from occurring. You may want to check on the complications board on here to see if you can learn more.
I hope you get the answers you need tomorrow.

Does your state not have medical care with disability?Every person I know on disability also gets there states medical care. I'm not trying to be nosy but this may be something to look into. Also if you are the getting disability now that your daughter has these issues she will qualify also. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I can relate to some of what you are saying. I have depression and anxiety..and insomnia also. Here recently the past 6 wks or so, my anxiety, stress and depression level and sky rocketed. My Dr increased my anxiety med. Changed me from Ambian to Klonopin (plus I secretely take a 100mg trazodone) to sleep. My depression hits me all of a sudden and don't know why. Hubby will ask me what's wrong and all I can do is cry and say that I don't know. He doesn't understand that. But you know that there are times that are unexplainable when our mental condtion mood**** As far as the sleep goes.. I stay up for days at a time then when I do go to sleep, it's ony like 2-2.5 hrs in a 24 hr period. I get exhausted but the brain just will not shut down so that I can sleep.
I hope that all gets better for you.

Hi Sue,
Thanks for your response. My husband is getting better each day. It is so nice to see him acting more normal and getting around better. He had a clotting problem last night with his intravenous pic port in his arm. Over the phone, the on call doctor advised him to wait until monday when he sees his regular doctor in his office to do anything. The home health nurse wanted me to take him right to the hospital. Bill would have nothing to do with the hospital after spending 4 weeks there. Well he is still O.K., but again I am scared!!! We just keep saying our prayers.
I have an appointment with the surgeron for a consultation about my stomach Monday the 11th. The area is getting a little bigger each day, but usually doesn't hurt.
I had a regular visit with my internist last friday and found out that I have lost 12 pounds during the last three months of my husbands illness. I was so thrilled that I had not gained anything. I know I was eating what little I could, in an irrational manner, trying to COPE with all the stress. I am so glad I did not do any weight damage. I seem to be in better control now, but I break down in tears for no reason.
Thanks for caring, Susan

Hi Sherri,
Thank you for your response, I just had a chance to look at my e-mails and I found yours. It feels good to know that someone cares.
Today I had another one of my pain spells that seem to go with the stomach problem. It happened once before about 3 weeks ago when I had to be in a bent over position working on a fire pit. It lasted for several hours and only went away after a rest lying down. Today I was gardening and bent over for an extended period of time. Again it lasted about an hour and went away after a nap. I am not sure if this is all related to the lump in my stomach. It seems to be a cramping feeling.
I have an appointment with the surgeon on Monday the 11th of July. So I should have a little more info then.
I was looking at my wls surgeon's report the other day and noticed that he used silk stiches as well as staples, so it sounds like he did a little extra for me. He said that all looked good in there at the time of surgery.
The kinky bowel sounds interesting as I have had an irritable bowel for many years. Do you know where could I find out more info on that?
Thanks for your help, Susan

My issues probably don't compare to yours but after having the surgery and loosing the weight i've lost I now have high cholesterol. I actually laughed when I was told this cause it was just nuts. My doctor said that in my case he really believes that it is hereditary.
Honestly though I really hope that you get better and that what ever your doctor(s) put you on makes everything better. My asthma has actually gotten worse since surgery but the meds I am on are keeping it under control. I've had asthma since I was a tiny baby so I really didn't think having the surgery would cure that.
I hope your able to get some sleep and take some time out to care for yourself.
Shannon
