Carol go lsee a Doctor right away. I personally was ok till my father died then I had a hard time. But my Primary Care Doctor said she usually has to perscribe an anti depressant to Gastric bypass only momentarily. She said sometimes stress from the new lifestyle adn the changes can bring about an depressive state with all the hormone and physical changes. She said it is actually high anxiety and is there because we are having to learn new cooping skills and that brings on more stress. She said I just noticed it more lately was all. I found out that also most people as sometime will eventually more for there old body because it is such a rapid change the mind doesnt ketch up sometimes like we would like. Go see your Doctor and hun it is normal.I spoke about it in my support group and many more people came out and told me they have had to do it as well for anxiety and piece of mind right now. Amy

Carol; A lot of times, the mood swings are brought on by the release of estrogen from the fat cells. It's usually the worst during the early post-op months when you're losing very quickly. If things aren't evening out for you now, make an appointment with your doctor. It may be time for a med that will help take the edge off. Blessings, Jennifer

Perhaps you do have depression. You should talk to your doc and see if a psychiatric eveluation is appropriate. You have probably heard that when we "fix" one problem, it uncovers another problem that was "hidden" by the first issue. That certainly happens to addicts. A common issue is for an alcoholic to use alcohol to mask feelings of depression or inadequacy. I think it is not a leap to think that since our "fat" issue has been dealt with by wls, deeper, more hidden issues may become more apparent. Be brave and talk to the doc about this. I certainly could be off base in your specific situation, but it is something else to consider. Good luck.

Christina; Usually the reason people are less sensitive to sugary and fatty foods the further post-op they get is they've let them back in their diet to a point that their pouch gets used to them. If you stay away from sugar and fats, your dumping will still work. My husband is non-op, but he's gotten away from processed sugars since I had my surgery and he has dumped on the one occassion he had sugar. Blessings, Jennifer

I just want to clarify that I didn't want to know because I wanted to eat things that would take me further from where I want to be, I was curious if she was right. I stay away from the things that got me fat in the first place. To be honest, it kind of scares me to think that I won't dump if I eat surgary or fried foods. I liked having the knowledge that if I ate it I would be sorry. I guess the best answer on this is to not test it at all! Keep staying away from those kinds of things and I won't need to have the answer, right?
