Topic: RE: How are all of my December 2008 friends doing?
Me again! I think I'm finally getting the hang of sipping, so the only problem I have is tolerating these horrible protein drinks!
I had my 2nd weigh in today. Last week (1 week out) I lost 16.8 lbs. This week (2 weeks out, 1 week on pureed foods), I GAINED 1 lb
Doc said not to worry, tho; that its normal going from nothing but liquids to double or triple the amount of calories and its part of the process of the body getting adjusted. I am now on soft food stage and am told that I should be losing again from this point. He expects me to lose another 15 by my next visit in 4 weeks.

I'm also sorry to hear about your pain and diagnoses.
Fortunately, I had my gb out last year, but if I didn't, one of my clearance tests would have been for gall stones - so I would not be able to have the RNY if I had stones (or perhaps they would have removed the gb at the same time?) Just another example of how different all docs are!
I didn't know I had gb problems. I went to the ER convinced I was having a heart attack as I had severe pressure in the center of my chest! They had me hooked up on the monitors and didn't find anything wrong. Then the ER doc suggested doing an ultrasound of my digestive organs and lo and behold - I had an enlarged gall bladder with huge stones! But I never experienced any pain or any other symptoms whatsoever until that point.
Hope you feel better!

What is the name of the medicine to prevent gallstones? I wonder why all surgeons don't prescribe it, I'm going to ask. I'd rather prevent I think.

The best person to ask would be your doctor or nutrionist. My doctor told me that over the first year the pouch will eventually be able to handle 1 to 1 1/2 cups of food per meal. So.. not sure where that falls with your current status. It may also be that some things, like liquids, pretty much go right through the pouch so they would create less of a full feeling.
Just a thought.

Glad to hear it is going well for you!! Keep up the great work. You can do this!

The binder DEFINITELY helps me as well!! Mine hurts the most when I stand up. Sitting is okay unless I move the wrong way. However, the pain is must less intense when I'm wearing the binder.

I am confused about something though. My menu says 2 tblsp. of foods and yet I can tolerate more. ex. 1 cup of tomato soup vs 2 tblsp. 1/2 cup cooked carrots vs 1/4 cup cooked carrots.
Am I doing something wrong by eating somewhat larger amounts of approved foods as long as I am not overfilling my pouch??

OK, so went to see Dr. Brody today and he said I can get my first "fill" on February 10. Looking forward to it....hopefully, I'll regain some of my restriction. Otherwise, he said I was doing great and to keep up the good work. I'm very pleased at this point.....take care everybody...Rob
