Topic: RE: Kaiser San Diego Options Program
I think they might be miss informed.  I am currently on the options program (track #124) and I pay nothing out of pocket for the classes.  The only thing they ask was to take a 3 ring binder to hold all the material/paperwork they give us for future reference.  It is mandatory to take this class before the surgery to prepare you and answer any questions you may have.  I actually like going to my classes and it doubles as a support group!

PS after the intial PCP referal it took me 2 weeks to get into the orientation class then another 2weeks to start the actual options program. I will be going to my 4th class on Thursday after that will have 8 classes to go.

Good Luck!

Topic: RE: Fellow Lake/Sonoma/Napa county people?
Hi,
I live in Napa, had surg. 11/30, and would very much like to meet with you and others.  I am Kaiser patient and find that Napa Kaiser group doesn't meet my needs. I have driven up to Vacaville for group (1st Wed. of month, 6-7:30pm) at Kaiser and find that is an enjoyable group to attend.  I am happy to drive, perhaps up to Calistoga?  Middletown?  Anywhere!

I'm in--let me know when we can do this.

Topic: Sac area WLS support group - End of year wrap-up!
Hey guys - it's time for our end-of-the-year wrap-up!  A bit of a miscellaneous support meeting, here's what I've got lined up to talk about:

(1) Newbie/pre-op questions,
(2) Dealing with stress eating,
(3) How to deal with the roller-coaster ride of body image (some of us don't like to think about it, but it affects us a lot!)

We didn't have any request for venue changes at the last meeting, so we'll have it at the same place again.  Early next year in January, we'll be have our first guest speaker - a trainer that's been doing a lot of work with one of our members.  Please feel free to bring friends/family/supporters with you to this end-of-the-year meeting!  I hope you all can attend.

RSVP here at MeetUp.com

Topic: RE: Kaiser San Diego Options Program
Wow...I am suprised that San Diego is charging for the Options classes!  I went through the Options program at Kaiser, Fontana and it was free.  My suggestion would be to ask why they are charging when other Kaiser's are free.  Best of luck!!

I'd suggest you journal your foods. Learning to become a full time vegetarian may offer some challenges getting enough protein.  http://whfoods.org/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=92 is a link that offers an extensive listing of the highest density protein foods on earth, and it also includes many items that are not dairy or fish, fowl, pork or beef.  I know of only one guy in 3 support groups that include over 150 monthly attendees who is a vegetarian. He made this decision several months post op, as he had difficulty digesting the more common sources of proteins.  You'll have to monitor your labs closely too, and keep up with daily supplements or you'll end up with nutritional shortages. Topic: RE: Kaiser San Diego Options Program
I didn't realize the Options program cost anything.

Anyway, the DMHC will waive this requirement if you appeal to them. I don't know the steps to do that but there are people on OH who do. Maybe one of them will see this and give you more specific advice.

wow you really have it together! I will look into the whey isloate thow I really want to focus on something with no animal products. That why the meals you suggested wont work for me. Iplan on being vegan for the rest of my life. You have made some great suggestions. Thank you for taking time out of your day to talk with me. kim
