My name is Monique and I'm in the beginning stages of the journey that many, if not most of you have been through. I have been considering having weight loss surgery for about 2 yrs and am finally going through with it. We had to switch insure because what we had before did not cover WLS. Now that we have finally switched at the beginning of the year my doctor has finally sent my referral. I had to take a class before I got referred and had a sleep test done, the sleep test showed I had mild sleep apnea. The bariatric surgery center is in San Francisco, I live about 30-45 min away, I was curious to know if any of you had gotten your surgery done there? Or can anybody explain to me how the process goes from here? All my doctor said was that the bariatric surgery center would call. But I heard it could be awhile before they do. Could anybody give me insight. Anything would be helpful. thank you so much.

I'm in the same boat...over 7 years out.  Have gained 40 pounds.  You can look at my profile pictures.  I have one from every year except year 6...OH couldn't take it for some reason.  I cheat so much...Even started to go by Costco for samples again!!  The one thing I try to do is exercise.  I try and ride my bike a lot...Force myself to burn energy since I cheat so much.  I run my errands on my bike.  Carb=The enemy!!  Brian  PS  I Remember you from the boards here years ago...

Yeah, I know I'm late on this one.  Yes, he did mine...Very good doctor.  Remember that you may not see much of him.  You will be seeing his PA much of the time.  The big issues is does he makes good cuts and has good hands...Yes and yes.  Most bypass surgeons are so busy with so many patients they just don't have much time for each one.  He will give you the time you need...But at some point you will be moved to your PCP.  Most if not all, PCPs know about RNY and what to look for.  You do a lot of your own homework, but after surgery expect the hand holding to come from your PCP...

Hello

I am schedule to have the gastric sleeve.  I have been reading various blogs and speaking to other people who have had WLS.  All say they do not have any regrets. Also during some of my pre-op classes, I met other WLS candidates who are excited about their proceedure.  I, on the other hand, am apprehensive, and even a little scared. I am worried about the after math of the surgey; how will my body adjust. How long does it take to begin loosing weight.  I prefer to gradually loose.  Does recovery time vary per person? Can veggie protein be a useful substitute for those of use who don't eat meat? I would appreciate any feed back.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat on the anniversary quickly approaching! Almost Ten years later I'm still at my goal weight of 150! Ok.. well, plus my rebound weight... LOL.. so I'm looking to loose some again too! Ultimately about 50lbs would be good to get back off - I look back at pictures and get sad! LOL

Glad you are healthy and doing well!

The site keeps changing so I'm not sure exactly where to find this but search the "people" options of OH to find people listed in cities close to you.  That was how I found people in the East Bay when I launched East Bay Bariatric 13 years ago.  It's take some work but having folks to talk to each month is worth the research time.  Good luck on your endeavor.

Topic: RE: RNY TO DS REVISION?

I had a revision with Dr. K in May '09. I did very well from the get-go. Had some ups and downs in the last 2 years a lot of it due to fibromyalgia I was diagnosed with in '12. A lot of IBS issues. Did you have it done on 09/13/13 as it says?  How are you doing? Next question why are there no people posting?. This forum used to be crowded day after day and now months till an answer is posted.
