I had RNY done 5 years ago and medical covered the whole processes. If your condition is life threatening then you should have no problem.

Medi-cal does cover RNY,  I had mine 18 months ago with Dr. Coates in Modesto,  I had full coverage medi-cal.   I had to diet under a doctors supervision for 6 months.    The doctor's office had a worker that messed up my paper work so the whole process took 11 months ( that person is gone).     In that time I quit taking any pain meds for my fibromyalgia and got myself as healthy as I could following the surgeons recommendations.   Good Luck  Hope this helps.

Topic: 6th ANNIVERSARY Post RNY!
I sort of can't believe so much time has passed... 6 years... & really... I'm still a whopping 124 lbs? Really? Still down from my original weight of 313 lbs. That's about a 190 pound loss. One full body lift a year and a half later which was pure hell & one revision which was easy. I may be a little older... a little more wise, although I don't act it at times... fortunately! My life's path had been changed permanently by that initial decision to undergo Laparoscopic RNY Gastric Bypass surgery.

I wish the economy would turnaround, but my Lap RNY can't fix that. It fixed my tired, aching, unhealthy body. It fixed my attitude. It fixed how the world views me from the outside. Not just "it" and not just my doctor nor just me. My fabulous doctor, Dr. Wittgrove, told me something very important the morning of my surgery. He said, "Kim, I can perform this surgery for you, but you need to do the rest. What I'm giving you is a tool." I never forgot that. He was right! It is a tool, not a cure, not a diet, not a supplement taking regimen, nor exercise. A tool... how simple! It was my blessing for which I'm most grateful.

I still get so emotional over how much my body and life has changed because of what the surgery has given me. I'm much more happy and free in my body. I don't think about food. I have no hunger. I don't like sitting. I have a better attitude. I dance as much as I can and have recently picked up the game of tennis. I hike, I do yard work and garden. I even co-pilot a single-engine plane! I have a much more physical lifestyle. I don't nearly sleep nor lay around like the old days. I don't wake up with potato chip crumbs in my bed from the night before. My bones don't ache. I don't have migraines. I have a positive attitude.

I do wish the economy would pick up... tired of hop-scotching jobs like in my early twenties until I can settle back into my desired careers of art direction/advertising/marketing/sales. Laid-off for the second time due to lack of work recently. At least I know I will interview better not feeling as though I'm being judged by my size. I do wonder if I'm judged by my age... but that's another surgery... kidding! lol!

I'll keep dancing through life this year. Spirit and chin up! Thank you all!

Topic: Upcoming SoCal Events and Group changes

If you joined the Halloween SoCal group - you probably got a notification regarding the new event for December.  I have converted the Halloween group into a general group to schedule SoCal meetups, events, etc.  We seem to try to get together quite often, so I thought this would be a wonderful place for us all to just keep in touch.

If you aren't from SoCal - feel free to peek around.  We don't mind.  But just be aware that the notices for events and such will go to all group members, I don't have the capability to pick and choose who it goes to. :(

Hope you all get to meet up with us sometime in the future.  Get on the plane and come on down :)

Hello new to OH, with my surgery date getting closer, I am very anxious and have some fears. I guess I'm just a little nervous of the unknown. I am also very interested in finding support groups in my area I live near Merced. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Topic: RE: What The......Hair loss?

i had my RNY on 4/16/12, and began loosing hair  the end of July. At my 3 mo. check up with my surgeon, she explained to me that hair growth goes in 3 mo. spurts, therefore, i began loosing my hair the end of July because the previous 3 mo., i was unable to get suffcient protein because I got sooo full sooo fast because of my small pouch. As time progressed, I was able to eat the required amount of daily protein intake, which in turn helps w/ hair growth. about the 3rd wk of october....no more hair loss, and already regrowing!  (please remember, all your hair doesnt fall out....i noticed mine was mostly along harline under bangs and thinning @ sides. )

Topic: RE: Support Group Los Angeles Area?

Hello!

I know that here in the OC is where my surgeon's group meets.  I am sorry, but don't know of any in the LA area.  However, a whole group of us people in SoCal get together every now and then.  About every month or so.  Keep an eye out on posts, cuz we share the events we host.  Feel free to join us!
