Here I am on my 49th birthday on Oct 3rd. This is me at the end of 4 miles during my first race.

Topic: RE: Have you had your PTH checked? Make sure you do.
Well, when we were having our surgeries, not too many doctors around here were doing any other surgery than RNY and Lap Band...there still are only a few that do the sleeve and pouch thing.

I think I would have done it differently, too.  I can't stand the diarrahea from any fats that I eat and now dealing with the other PTH and iron issues.

I'm hungry a lot and never quite fell full...I'll see Aranow in Jan and see what he says.  I have a feeling that he'll dismiss that I have the rapid evacuation of my pouch...he'll say to stop eating this or that...but, he'll make me chug a lot of water and when he sees I can down a huge amount without filling up, maybe he'll send me for some tests...who knows?  Can you tell I'm not happy with his attitude?  It's cause he was glib about Bob's seizure and it's correlation with the RNY...

My nails are a mess, too and my hair thinned, but that's cause my regular thyroid was going caput and now I have to take a daily thyroid supplement.

It sucks to get old!  I turned 46 on the 2nd and I feel so old.  No energy, etc.  Hopefully once I get my levels back on track, I"ll feel more like myself.

Oh, to boot...I now find out I'm a sleepwalker and do things in my sleepwalking that I have no recollection of doing.  Like taking my psych meds in large quantites and I was wondering for months why at the end of the month I was coming up short on my pills...hmmmm...even tho I have my pills in  a lock box and only I know the code!  Bob caught me several times in the box in the middle of the night.  I now had to pay 800 bucks for this computerized machine that dispenses my meds only at set certain times and now I'm safe.  It freaked me out cause felt like he or the kids would come to me in the morning and I'd be dead.  Scary.  I think it's one of my meds doing the sleepwalking, but my shrink dismissed it saying I read to much on the internet.  But, another physician told me that there are facts showing that this med can cause people to sleep walk..No, it's not Ambien, the sleeping pill which does cause it.  It's Cymbalta.

The other morning when he woke up, he opened the fridge to get out the creamer for his coffee and my purse was in there!!! I just wish that I would clean while I sleep walk, that would be grea!

I am exhausted after a walking episode.  I know when I've walked because the next day I'm really, really tired.  I guess I don't get into deep sleep stages when I do.

Ok, that's all for now...take care of yourself...

wow Paula,  Very interesting.
You must have been going crazy.
I take my Vitamins and supplements faithfully but I still see the affects of the surgery on me.  My nails grow but they peel and spilt and just flake off.  And other things.
If I had to do it over again I would do the surgery where they make a pouch of the stomach and do NOT reroute the intestines.  But I didn't know there were other options.  I thought there was just the band and RNY.
Again, thanks for a very interesting post.
also i hoope your husband is fine.

Tammy, It has been 18 months and to be honest I can't remember if I got a swab but I'm pretty sure I was drinking fluids after the test. My treatment was wonderful and I feel awful that your experience has not been pleasant.

I know it is hard, but try to focus on good things. Thing about the weight loss, and the improvement to your health and before you know it the bad start will be a faint memory.

If you need anything let me know.

Topic: Health Tracker Update: Meals and Reports

Last week we released two major updates. First was the public release of OH Groups where any ObesityHelp member can now create their own Group. Second was the addition of Activity Tracking to Health Tracker, which provides a robust and easy to use tool to track and monitor your exercise and activity. Today we have added My Meals and an Activity vs. Weight Loss Report to Health Tracker.

My Meals

My Meals allows you to group and store multiple food and beverage items as a custom meal that can be used over and over again. If you have meals that you eat on a regular basis, you will no longer need to log each food item individually.

To access My Meals, go to your Health Tracker in My OH and click on the Nutrition tab. You will see My Meals listed under Nutrition.
Creating a new meal works similar to your Food Log. You can search for food items on the right and add the foods to the meal on the left. A Calorie Breakdown chart and Nutrient Summary Label are also available for each meal.

Once a meal is created you can add that meal to your Food Log from My Meals by clicking "i had this" or you can search for the meal from your Food Log.
When searching for a meal to add to your Food Log, all meals will be returned when "My Foods" is selected in search. So, to "drill down" on meals that you have created, select to only show "My Foods." When a new meal is created it may require up to 30 minutes for that meal to be indexed and become searchable.

Activity vs. Weight Loss Report

Adding to the Macronutrient and Export Reports previously available, there is now an Activity vs. Weight Loss Report. This report will allow to compare Average Time in Activity vs Weight over time, providing you with further insight into what impact physical activity as on weight loss and weight loss maintenance. In Health Tracker, click Reports and then select Activity vs. Weight Loss.

We hope these additions to Health Track reduce the time required to log your daily food intake and makes it easier to view how physical activity impacts your weight.

Create your first meal now!

If you have any questions, comments or concerns about this release, please post them on the Main Message Board.

I had Simone for one of my nurses - she was adequate I suppose - she's the one who just put more guaze pad over my drain as opposed to taking it all off and giving me fresh dressing......

the nurse I had after surgery, Tanya, was great. Dr R even said she was the best (a drill sargent lol). Sal was my CNA and he's the one who left me in the bed, which he had adjusted to a chair position (not very comfy) and left me there until the tylenol wore off, he seemed to not want to be bothered.
But at change of shift I got Simone (RN) who was OK, but chastised me when I asked for help at change of shift. I was in pain and why would I know about change of shift? I don't even remember the night shift CNA, but she was never around. I was SO happy to get Tanya back the next day! and as an added bonus I got Stephanie, who seemed to be a fairly new nurse, but was great, very happy and encouraging. I am glad I knew how to unhook myself from all the machines, though, because otherwise I may not have gotten up.

Keep doing well !

Welcome home Pam - I just had my one week visit with Dr. R and I didn't get into the hospital thing with him - I don't know why - I just didn't have the energy to get into it - but I will make it a point to tell him when I see him next week. He took the drain out - like others have said before me - it is not painful just a little crampy ache for a very short time - nothing for you to worry about. He wants me to go to a gym and walk on a treadmill starting this week.... I'll do the best I can - he is very strict about doing things his way. Considering his military background the best thing to say is yes - it's an easier appointment that way. He was pleased that I got the 4 shakes in and told me to try to do 5 - I don't know if I'll be able to - I think 4 is pretty good - I'm getting 112 grams of protein (unjury 20 + 8 from the milk).... I'm just so thankful to have the drain out!

Sorry you had issues with the staff at St. Francis - you know Pam if I was able to leave on Saturday morning I would have left that hospital thinnking it was one of the best in the country - the nurse I had on Friday evening (Kathy) and the CNA (Bernice) were just OUTSTANDING - the nurse on the last day (Nicole) was just as awesome - these people are so head and shoulders above the others it is just pitiful! There was another CNA that was there who was wonderful too -his name was Andrew - he was great. The rest of the CNA's I encountered had chips on their shoulders and were a poor example of people who should be working in the health care field - terrible, terrible, terrible attitudes and attention to detail - one of the CNA's came to unplug me so I could go to the bathroom and left before I got off the bed - well I started walking and was still plugged into the wall - I had to call again - you'd think since her only purpose for coming in my room was to unplug me she could had gotten it right for goodness sake! My drain was leaking and it left a trail of blood through the room and on the bathroom floor - I mentioned it to the nurse and the stuff was still on the floor over 24 hours later - that was so nasty! Also instead of the nurse finding the root cause of my port leak she just put more dressing ontop of it and of course it kept leaking - I asked another nurse walking by to please remove all the dressing and check it - she said that the dressing was so full that whenever I moved it was like a very full sponge being squeezed - she completely redressed it and that fixed the problem. Anyway - enough about the bad - it's over- can't dwell -

Hope you have a great recovery!
Warm Regards - Tammy -
