glad your home. Everything feels better at home. I know you feel overwhelmed right now... we all did. Just remember that each day you will feel a little better. If things don't improve for you call Dr Raftopolous I'm sure he will want to know if you are miserable and not getting your fluids in.
This shall pass.. Will keep you in my thoughts.
Hugs, Kathy

Hope you had a better experience than I did post op in the hospital and so far at home

Topic: Home and Miserable
Well, I made it - 5.5 hours of surgery on Friday - home on Sunday. I'm not a happy person right now and just keep telling myself - this will be over eventually. I had diarreah for two days that kept me from sleeping - it was absolutely disgusting - I'd be sitting in the chair and thinking oh no I better hurry - get to the bathroom and nothing would come out - then I'd walk around get the sensation - nothing - get tired from walking so I'd sit down and have to go again - it was relentless for hours and hours and hours living like that and then trying to keep track of getting the stupid 1 ounce in every 15 minutes - emptying that disgusting drain - which leaked all over the place - nasty, nasty, nasty - the entire process is just not pleasant for me, at least the severe pain has somewhat subsided to dull pain so I know I'm on the mend....
Just wanted to let whoever cares know I survived.

Best of luck tomorrow.
Can I ask what the bowel prep is for? Is that because you're having RNY? I'm having VSG and I don't have to do a bowel prep. Should I ask my doc?
Speedy recovery!

I wish you all the best for a very uneventful surgery and a speedy, relatively pain free recovery.
Things to bring with you...
*Chap stick for dry lips.
*Slip on slippers or sandals for the walking around post op
*A very loose nightgown or tee shirt for after your first shower. (I had Aranow and stayed three days)
*A big tee shirt to wear under your elastic band thing so you don't get irritated.
*Ask for an extra pair of white support socks/hose things...I washed a pair every night and hung to air dry and had hubby help me put a fresh pair on..it just felt so good to go to bed with clean feet.
*Your own flavor of Chrystal Lite if the hosp doesn't have what you like.
* I didn't like Chrystal Lite, so, I had the nurse bring me ho****er in one cup and a two decaf tea bags and another cup of ice and splenda packets...I brewed both bags in the same cup to make a strong cup and then put in the splenda and then poured it over the ice and had my own decaf iced tea.
*Have some bottles of Smar****er at home for afterwards..I swore and still swear by this as it's just plain old water, but has electrolytes in it and I felt it replenished what I'd lost from surgery and the trauma of surgery/recovery/anesthesia, etc.
*You won't want to do much reading, etc in the hospital...I didn't...I didn't bother with books, etc. You may want to bring your iPod and headphones for your own music, tho..just be careful not to have it ripped off.
If you have a handsome 26ish guy nurse named Mark taking care of you...he's my nephew, tell him I said I treat you extra special!
Here's to being a HUGE loser!!!

Topic: RE: 2 yrs late for an appt..Finally went to Aranow's APRN
Hi Maureen,
I didn't see Dr Aranow this time. I saw Julia, the APRN...I see him in Jan after 3 mos of the iron treatment.
I'm painfully hungry too, and I know I have "rapid emptying syndrome" and Julia said he likes to not think that it's biological from the surgery and will try to correct it with changes in eating, etc. first...I told her that Five big cups of water will go right down and I do not fill up...She said, "hmmm, you may need to see him next, not me and he'll try to figure it out..sometimes the stoma or something does open up too much, etc"...Yeah, I said, and my food rushes out and I have diarrahea within 20 min of eating...
Not to mention, when I'm on the toilet I get awful throwing up (more like just retching cause there's never anything in my pouch to throw up...She never heard of that one before...she thought it may be dumping...can be..Never thought about it. I'll have to remember what I eat next time it happens...I dump on fats a lot, too.
You hang in there, too and we'll compare notes!
