Topic: Its Been a long time ....need advice...good to be back
Hey folks - Sorry its been so long - I am about 16 months out and I have lost 211 lbs - was 480 now 269 and need to lose about 40 more lbs to meet my goal. My major issue right now is my legs still being large. My calves and thighs will not get smaller at the same pace the rest of me has. I know that its possible to isolate muscle to build and shape, can it work with fat too? Will focusing on a lower body workout make any of the fat go away or just affect the muscle. I also have serious veins poking out on my legs that I will eventually have removed and they will look a little better. I really just starting a weight lifting routine and need advice. Thanks
PS - I just updated my profile to show some pics that will show what Im talking about. THX

Topic: RE: REVISION APPROVED AND DATE SET!!!!!!!
Hey Cindy!  Well first let me thank you for the well wishes. I have Medicare/Medicaid and basically because Medicare does not require approval it was really simple for me. Medicaid requires 6 months of seeing a Dietician, and I had to go through all the sleep studies, and Pulmonary, Echocardiagrams and that stuff again.

I met with my surgeon Dr. Bell from Yale on Thursday and he explained that my pouch is still the same size, but somehow I managed to gain 100 pounds back, so what I am having is the Long-Limb gastric bypass, and from what I understand this is my only option and is more safe than my original bypass. He will not be doing anything to my pouch, I am not sure how to explain exactly what it entails. I understood it when he explained it, but I could not explain it to you.. Dr. Bell has been excellent in explaining things to me and making me feel comfortable. I also feel good that I will be at Yale and they have a great reputaion. I hope this helps if I can answer anymore questions please let me know...

Hello Mary,
What kind of revision are you having?  I will be talking to my surgeon in November about a revision.  I have gained 15 lbs and can' t seem to lose it.  I diet and exercise faithfully but nothing.  Let me know what you had to do to get the okay from your Dr and insurance company.
Good luck on your upcoming surgery.  I will say a little prayer for you.

Topic: REVISION APPROVED AND DATE SET!!!!!!!

Hello fam! I met with my surgeon yesterday and he advised me of what I am going to have, as far as my revision. I am excited and can't wait! I go in on the 8/31/09, and the most exciting thing is no drain....very safe procedure, and hopefully I will be back to my old self. I have decided to stay away from food as long as I can and just do the protein drinks. We'll see how long that works.

I just do not have much support. I really do not have family and it is kinda depressing, but I am determined to have this surgery to put my life back together. Just wondering if there is anyone out there that have some words of encouragement, or would just like to be a good friend. I do not post as much as I should and that is because I get so down, but I am trying to change that....

You know I was very surprised that it got approved to easily.  However, I think it is due to my plan that makes things easier.  However since this whole process has started the scale continues to climb and it is very depressing.  I have now gained probably 35 back. I have stopped getting on the scale because it is just depressing.  I have decided that I will go back on the scale on "D" day of Sept 15 when I have to start my 1000 cal diet and then will after surgery on the 29th.  I am terrified of even doing the surgery, but I know what I have to do.  Also in the end it will be worth it.  The DR said for sure I should be able to get to my goal.  As with the band, I never did.

I should also mention that when I first went for surgery for the band, I didn't need much for insurance to approve me then either ( I work for the state, so my insurance is pretty good).

Hi Maureen,
I wish you the best when you see Dr. A.  I don't see him until November and maybe by that time I may have some of this weight off.  i just don't know what else to do.  I go to the gym, I swim, I lift weights and nothing.  I don't always eat right but most of the time I do.  I guess I'll try the low carb diet one last time and see what happens.  I'm like you I'm hell bent on getting this weight off if it's the last thing I do.  WLS was my last hope and I'm not going to give up.  I lost a total of 70 lbs and gained back 15.  I'm going to eat better and go to the gym more often maybe bump it to 5 days a week instead of 3, although I did that and it did nothing.
Oh well I'm going to keep trying and you keep trying too.
Thanks for your support.
Stay in touch.

Cindy

Hi everyone, I just returned from my (gulp!) 30th college reunion (theatre department, alums from the 1970s) - what a blast. Did some performing, haven't done that in years (used to sing professionally). Anyway, check out my pics at my profile page. I'm up 20 lbs. from my lowest weight and hell-bent to get it off - but I'm healthy and holding!! Best, Maureen

HI,
I am new to the forum and am meeting with Dr Richie in his office for the first time on Wed. I have been to a seminar with him in June.  I was wondering if any of the members who chose him had recent updates or if anyone else had suggestions for drs.

Hi Cindy, I feel your pain. I will talk to Dr. A. about revision options when I see him in September, but I have already asked Lois if he performs these type of procedures and she told me no, he does not. Dr. A. is all about the initial surgery and resulting success, after that he is the quintessential parent eagle who pushes the fledglings out the of the nest - and that's how it should be! We are responsible for our own success - however, if something physiological is preventing us from sustaining that success, than it must be addressed and options must be put on the table. I am hell-bent to get this weight off that I've gained since my surgery (between 20-25 lbs.) - but then again, I've been hell-bent my entire life to lose my excess weight (between 350-400 lbs. most of my adult life). I turned to surgery when I finally accepted that I couldn't do it on my own - why then should this period of my life be any different? Be well, stay in touch - we're in this together! Maureen
