That's awesome about your mom!  My family gave me a VERY hard time during my process.  I finally stopped talking about it.

Rent a few movies & stick close to home the next few days.... it's unpleasant getting everything cleaned out & prepped... but manageable.  I think I lost 10 pounds alone.. LOL...

If you're on "Go Lightly".. best advice... Keep as COLD as possible.. & drink it quickly... I also chewed gum while drinking it to keep the taste at bay.. it definately helped.  Sweeter the better.

I plan on just relaxing.. doing shopping..a dolphin swim.. & YES I'm going to try PARA-Sailing.. Lost 160 pounds & I want to have the adventure without the weight!

Just me & my son going for bonding.  I'll be back next Thursday very late & I'll be checking in to see how you're doing.. you should be home & feeling pretty good by then.. even if you still have the drain.

The drain is a bother.. but just wear loose clothing & keep it raised up with a few safety pins & a shoe string.. LOL..

SIP SIP those fluids & protein... take short walks (you'll feel better trust me) and ohhh did I mention PROTEIN.. LOL

Hugs,
Mickey

First of all...Congratulations Butterflyz!! My surgery date is this Friday, so I don't know how it feels to have the drain in or removed but I know my Dr. sends all of his patients home with a JP drain. Others I know either don't have one or they are removed before they go home. I will have to empty and measure the drainage twice a day. It will be removed on my 1 week visit.
Others have told me that it is a little weird when they take it out but not much pain...quick and easy.

Good Luck !

ps. I haven't told many people about my surgery. I just told my 84 yr. old mother today.

Thanks Mickey!
I am just finishing up my liquid diet heading into the famous "bowel cleanse" stage. Ohhhh, so looking forward to the next two days! It will keep me distracted from my random thoughts of fear!!
I feel better going in knowing that Dr. R has so many fans. Thanks for sharing all your experiences with him. It really does make a big difference.

I finally told my 84 yr old mother today that I was having surgery. I am from a big Irish Catholic family and I didn't think they would approve so I kept it to myself. I was pleasantly surprised when she said, "I will keep you my prayers dear and offer up a Mass for your surgeon and your speedy recovery."
I wasn't expecting that but it was sure a nice surprise! Who knew??

I will be going to have my living will notarized tomorrow and I think I will be ready to go....after the "cleansing" of course!

Thanks again.

Hope you enjoy your vacation.

You're count down to being a "loser" is just about done!  I'll be on vacation when Friday comes.. & I just want to assure you... you're in the hands of a  VERY skilled surgeon.

I'll be thinking of you Friday morning & sending good thoughts & prayers your way.

12 lbs is awesome! What made you decide on the band rather than RNY? I'm having surgery in July, and I can't wait for it to come!

Thank you all so much for your well wishes!

I am home after an uneventful surgery and already down 20 pounds!!

I really never believed that this would work for me, but seeing is believing. It took me 6 months before surgery to lose 20 pounds (and that was 2 months on all Optifast).

Feeling better everyday and cleared to start exercising aggressively.

Topic: RE: Dr Robert Bell -- experiences? Really struggling to make a decision (long)
I am an "oldie" here and haven't posted in a bit, but 7/21 will be my 5th anniversary, and Dr. Bell did my surgery.  I would not use any other doctor EXCEPT Dr. Bell.  He is the absolute best doctor for any type of WSL.  My friend used Dr. Valin, and is having huge problems and has never seen him again; his wife sees you after surgery.  Dr. Bell follows his patients forever.  Also, he is employed by Yale and does not get paid per surgery, so that in itself tells you how dedicated he is to the cause.

Good luck.
