I love ice cream . I really love ice cream with hot fudge on it. I love Dairy Queen Blizzards.

Which surgery can I have where I can eat all the ice cream  that I want , with hot fudge and brownies mixed in, and not gain my weight back?

I absolutely was truthful with my psychologist.  I carried on treatment with her for a while on a number of things.  Then it got expensive $60 per visit.   So I chose not to see her anymore.

Well this morning, I CHOSE not to go past a 7-11.   :)   And I didnt have crazy withdrawels either.

Whatever path I decide to take - I know I have it in me to do what it takes - IF I PUT MY MIND TO IT.   I completely get that !!!

Someone asked if my eating or whatever caused my hernia.  Probably ... not enough fiber and being constipated.

I just want to clarify one last time, I know I screwed up, I am taking responisibility for my  own actions and my own choices.   I came here looking for answers as to what would happen IF I ate wrong and DIDNT follow the program.  I just wanted to know my consequences up front.  I wanted to be educated completely.    My doctor referred me to this site to become more educated.

Although you guys were all VERY tough on me - it was well deserved and someone should have yelled at me long time back.    In fact, my hernia popped out back in June and I WAS TOOO ASHAMED TO GO SEE MY DOCTOR because I hadnt lost any more weight and didnt follow the rules.  It was only when I had to be rushed to the ER because it wasnt just fat popping out - it was my intestines - that I got the wake up call.  Granted it was for my hernia to get fixed, but in the same visit - I realized I need a better tool to HELP ME change my behaviors.

Good first step!

I know I can relate to your compulsive eating behavior- a lot of us can, some will admit it and some won't. That's how I got as big as I was... 400 pounds! So you're not alone and I think you're brave to admit it.

Now, after the DS, I still have some food issues and eat some foods I know I shoudn't and my DS allows it! You just need to be sure you're eating the good stuff too and taking your vitamins. The way you will react to each food cannot be answered. Everyone is different!

Keep doing your research. Find a real DS surgeon and attend the seminar. Start now with some therapy, find a therapist that does cognitive behavior therapy. You can do it!

Good luck to you.

Do they make diet Slurpees? Those would be okay. And the Hunter sausage is okay---I'm assuming it's mostly all protein and fat.

But the DS is not going to punish you if you eat the wrong thing, at least not soon enough after the fact to really act a deterrant of the sort you seem to want. And frankly, seeing a therapist is cheaper than having a major surgery that may not do what you want it to.

Oh hey, let me also offer you a Slurpee alternative.  Find sugar-free shaved ice flavors online, and obtain a shaved ice maker online.  Make your own sugar free Slurpees and you'll be one step closer to getting rid of those self-destructive habits... AND you will be properly hydrating yourself.

"there are no HUGE physical consequences for me that say - DONT EAT THAT ANYMORE."

You're not going to have that with the DS.  You're not going to have a kind of magical fairy that runs in and kicks you in the stomach when you stop at 7-11 after your DS, have a moment of weakness, and decide, "Maybe just a small slurpee.  I'm five weeks out, it's okay..."

No one and nothing is going to stop you from backsliding after the DS, just like you did with the VSG.  If your head isn't on right, you can eat around the DS and you'll be much worse off (weight gain plus severe vitamin deficiencies?  Whoa Nelly!).

The DS won't be a magic bullet for you, hon.  You really need to find a therapist or counselor that will help you figure out why you turn to crap food for comfort and "fulfillment" before you think about going under another knife.  Your life is at stake.

Thank you everyone for your words of wisdom.  Decided 100% NOT to get the DS.  My hernia surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday - so at least my belly wont keep popping out on me.

Ya, they make Crystal Lite Sluprees - but they are NASTY.

Yes, I have bought a ice shaver machine and make my own with the crystal lite packages - its not not as CONVENIENT as driving up to 7-11 and getting one out of the machine.  I know excuses excuses.

You all AND my Dr all gave me a huge wake up call on alot of things.  I have a huge road of ahead of me and alot to think about and alot to do.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time out of your lives to help a stranger.

Good for you. I know this was hard medicine to take.

Listen, keep working on fixing what's "broken" in your psyche. It took me some seven years of twice a week therapy before I could even sit in the same room with the subject of eating and my weight, at least three more years before I could have a meaningful conversation with my therapist about it, and then a good four years of phenomenally hard actual therapy WORK before I was "fixed" enough to be ready for WLS.

It was worth the work. Because I put in all that healing work, I KNOW it made all the difference in the world in how I handled the surgery, the weight loss, the eating requirements and the incredible changes that came along the way.

Perhaps sometime down the road you can revisit the subject of a revision WLS of some kind, whether it's the DS or something else. But right now you need to focus on fixing your head. That's the really hard part.
