Should a Person Gain for the DS (that better)?
Assuming you mean under a 50 BMI, I am having the DS with a 35.2 BMI...there are surgeons out there who will do lightweights. And insurance companies that will approve it without a problem depending on comorbid conditions.
However, you must have a 35 BMI.

10 lbs! Hell ya I would pack that on to qualify.
I know with my BCBS of MI, you still had to have a 40 BMI + Como's to qualify... or a 50 and no Como's.
If it was 50lbs... i would say no way... but 10 lbs is some heavy jeans an a winter coat... LOL!
My sister kept her heavy purse on her shoulder and her winter coat on to qualify for the RNY.

Honestly, my concern is not with whether he should gain 10 lbs. to qualify - most of us know from our pre-op days that gaining 10 lbs. is not hard to do. I am concerned because you have posted on here before that he was throwing a coniption about the cost of the vitamins that we have all recommended you needed to be on. So if he says you can't afford vitamins now for just YOU, what is the plan to afford them if BOTH of you have the DS? That is really something the two of you need to sit down and figure out before he decides to pursue getting a DS himself. Vitamins are NON-NEGOTIABLE, period.
