Should a Person Gain for the DS (that better)?
OK I called hubby to get most current weight, etc. He weighs 278 and is 6 feet 5 inches. His BMI is 33.
Our insurance requires that a person with 2 or more co-morbidities (which he has) have a BMI of 39.5.
Our insurance does not require that you be overweight for a specific length of time. You just have to do the 6 month Dr. supervised diet, etc.
We have United Health Care Definity Plan which paid 100% of my DS.

When I first called my insurance, they told me I had to have a bmi over 50. I said, really? even with comorbidities like diabetes abd high blood pressure? They said yep and no other requirements. I gained the 8 lbs I was short in about a week and a half.
Surgeons office called me back in about two weeks and said that the insurance didn't have the 50 bmi, just over 40 w/no co morb's or 35 with. They also said I needed 6 mos of diet w/my pcp, plus 5 years of med records proving the weight. I'm like wtf??? First they tell me different things, and they make me gain 8 lbs just to qualify, and then that is wrong???
oh...and btw....as long as your hubby says no way to your vitamins...then no way to his surgery. Go with him to the consult and tell the Dr. point blank that ur hubby doesn't want to pay for your vites so how is he going to pay for his???

Don't knock Ambien - it's a hell of a drug. I know I've read somewhere in this forum or on the old R&R that people have gone on Internet shopping sprees on Ambien, waking up the next morning with no recollection of what they'd done. They don't find out until all of the boxes end up on the porch the next morning!
