I had a revision from a gastric bypass to a DS ON 11/26/12. Starting weight 329 , 1 1/2 weeks ago i was down to 293 now i am back up to 299. I started following the Atkins diet around that time. Is this the wrong diet plan for me, is this the reason i am gaining? I am so frustrated , i cant mess this one up too. Any suggestions i am seriously stressing out.

Are you doing high protein... AT LEAST 90 grams of protein daily,

high fat,

lots of water.... minimum of 64 onces

LOW carb.

Fitday is a great place to track your daily intake.  DO NOT worry about calories.  DSFacts has the DS malabsorption math.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Anything else change?  Are you still able to empty out your system every morning?

Perhaps you would do well on a more balanced diet or something along the lines of South Beach.

Perhaps increase your water even more. I know it's a pain but it might help.

Hi fellow revisioner lol I had mine done 11\28\12 RNY to DS.

Water retention will have you gaining. (especially..our monthly gift)

Or maybe its carbs, though your doing the Atkins die****ch their premade meals bars and shakes. The carbs are still high.

Ive been sticking to more natural foods, meats and veggies. Poultry, eggs, and fish.

hangel in there you will start losing again.

Hi there,

I'm a revision from RNY to DS too, had it December 15, 2012 so just over a year out now. Ok, first, our revision especially is the biggest one of all, so the internal healing/adjusting is ongoing, and you are barely two months out. Still a newbie!  How much protein are you getting in a day, are you using protein shakes? At 2 mos out usually need to be doing at least one a day, for about 30-50g of protein. Long term, we absorb the most efficiently in liquid form, that's one thing that hasn't changed from RNY to DS, so I do one shake a day, sometimes 2, helps with my vit levels too. And making sure you are getting at least 64oz of water also very important! You also might get more responses from another site that has a lot more DSers and RNY to DS revisions, http://weightlosssurgery.proboards.com and there's a lot of good information on http://www.dsfacts.com/ as well. I like having a few sources of POV to keep myself informed.

Generally speaking, Atkins is a great plan to follow for DSers; you just have to figure out within it what works best for your body; can you also define what Atkins is for you, what foods are you eating, how much protein are you getting in? Also generally speaking, good to avoid high sodium foods, processed foods. And right, just because we can eat bacon for the fat as DSers, doesn't always mean it will be good for you, certain foods stimulate my weight loss, others don't, I had to play around, do trial and error to sort it out. Any packaged foods, I usually go with low-sodium option (which for me, is deli meat, hot dogs, sausages; I do ok with bacon)

As for lettuce, eating it is fine; one of the main issues we have to consider is the 'limited real estate' we have in our stomach, so that's why we have to get in the protein first, and then whatever else we want after, especially in these early recovery months. So lettuce is filling but doesn't do anything for us. This loosens up over time, but in the earlier post-op months, we're tighter and still adjusting. Depending on what you are eating protein wise, you can try it with a tiny side car salad,  just eat it the protein first. Later on you'll be able to eat salads again with protein; I usually custom my lettuces, carbs in condiment/small side car size, keep the main star the protein. On occasion though - and that's because I'm at goal an maintaining - if I get in my needed protein for the day, then I'll just do soup/salad for dinner if I have a taste for that, esp in colder months. But you need to stay focused on protein first, and you should still be doing at least 35-50g from protein shakes a day,  everything else after, and getting in your water.

There are any number of things - especially being women - that contribute to 5-6lb weight spikes. Wanted to check to see if it was by chance your time of the month as well. Try not to freak out, it's too early and you're still healing, have a brand new system that's been through a lot!
