Alexian Brothers

Hi. I am looking into Lapband surgery and wondering if anyone here has had experience with Alexian Brothers Elk Grove for their surgery. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you P~

Hi P! I had my lap RNY at Alexian Brothers. I had no problems while at Alexian. I just remember that the room was very warm. The care was good. However, it was very noisy there and you don't get a lot of rest. They are always coming into the room and doing things. The OR staff, anesthesiologist and nursing staff were fine. Good luck! Lucy

I had my RNY at Alexian Bro. On the positive side, the nursing care was excellent. They were at my side in a jiffy every time I needed something. In the negative side, the hospital is old. The room was very small and really not set up for a big person to help themselves. It was hard to get out of bed and get to the bathroom. There were no grab bars except in the bathroom. So I had to call for help just to bet out of bed Other than that, it was OK. if I had a choice to do it over again I would do it at St. Alexius - same group, newer facility.

They are supposed to be making a whole new wing just for bariatrics, and Michelle at Suburban Surgical said that they are getting one big building too. All of the docs will be under one roof. The new hospital wing is supposed to be private rooms, and are supposed to eb for large people. Should be good for the people getting ready to have surgery within the next year.

I had my lap band surgery at St. Alexius with Dr. Rantis of Suburban Surgical. I've been on OH and other lapband boards for almost 2 years and would not go to any other Chicago area surgery group for lapband. I'm at goal and couldn't be happier. Hi, I just saw your message. I have an appt. with Dr. Rantis. I just found out if I go to them my insurance covers 70/30. If I go to my hospital I pay very little. Not sure about the surgeon at my hospital. any suggestions. Gayle

Hi, I have just found out that my insurance covers 70/30 with Dr. Rantis and alomst 100 with my hospital. Do you know anything about Dr. Fred Tiesenga.

I had my open RNY at Alexian with Dr. Kane Sr (now retired) and I recommend his group highly. The hospital itself tho, well, I wouldn't return there for anythign but ER if I could help it. Definitely bring a clip on fan as the rooms are horribly hot. Also bring headphones and music as it is so noisy even on morphine I couldn't stay asleep. If you need blood sugar monitoring bring your own glucometer and make a big note to use your machine or they use on older than WWII (or so it seemed to me). I had a horrible time getting timely responses when I paged nurses and I had bad back spasms and only got help from a nurse on the very last night when one kind soul (who had back issues of her own) helped me by bringing in extra pillows. The night staff do not always speak sufficient english or are overworked to the point one didn't understand my need to go to the bathroom and another male nurse came in asked if I preferred a female to help me to the john, I said yes, he said okay, left and 40 minutes later came back and said "sorry no one else" . This was in May 2003 so I pray they have improved since then. Colleen

I had mine done at Alexian brothers by Dr. Guske. I love Dr Guske! The hospital staff was great! It was the most comfortable hospital stay ever.
