boot camp graduation
HI Peggy, my son graduated from Great Lakes last year.
The Naval Museum is there
http://www.greatlakesnavalmuseum.org
When my son graduated he wanted to go to the mall didnt want to be anywhere near base LOL, there's a great mall there we hung out there most of the time and saw 4 movies in one day.. LOL
Congrats on his graduation, be prepared, to walk in the cold, get to the base early to get in line for parking because they herd you in to your parking spaces etc.. If you get there early you can get a front space and it's easier to get out when you leave.
Take lots of pictures its a heck of a celebration!!!

The Gurnee mall is real close to Waukegan. http://www.gurneemills.com/static/node592.jsp;jsessionid=aSGs8IAvmbdf It is an outlet mall but I have not really seen too much in the money savings there, it is basically that you need to know what you are buying. Milwaukee is not too far from Waukegan, great German food and a really good zoo in Brookfield which is about 15 miles west of Milwaukee. There is a tollway right there (near Waukegan) that connects to the Chgo expressway system that can link you to downtown Chgo. From Waukegan to downtown it is about 35-40 miles away but is all connected by expressways. There is a 3 domed http://www.county.milwaukee.gov/MitchellParkConserva10116.htm botanical garden in Milwaukee that is really nice to go to expecially in the winter. The Chicago Botanical Garden is in Glencoe which is not too far from Waukegan. http://www.chicagobotanic.org/ There is an aweful lot to see in downtown Chicago. I would suggest going up in the Han**** building to the observation deck. I say this deck as opposed to Sears Tower because the Han**** has better views of the lake front because it is closer to the water and almost just over Navy Pier. There is shopping right on the peir also. And the Han**** is right on Michigan Ave which is one of the shopping areas of the upper Loop area. The main shopping area is on State Street. Michagan Ave is the la di da shopping area that has Bloomies, Macys, Nordstroms, Saks, to name a few of the upper end stores.
That is about all that I can think of off of the top of my head. Have a great time.
