Hi everyone.I am scheduled for surgery at DayOne Center in Chicago tomm. I am very anxoius about it, just not knowing what's going to happen.(I've never had surgery). I just keep telling myself that this time tomm., it will be over and the 'new life' begins. The nurse at the surgery center mentioned something about Heparin (a blood thinner), has anyone else been given that prior to surgery? It seemed odd because my labs were normal. Wish me luck! Patty

Patty good luck I wish you the best you will be fine. I am having my lap-band on 1/26/07. Did you ask why the heparin? How long have you been waiting to get this done? did you have problems with the insurance co? When you feel better keep us posted on how you feel.

Best Wishes for a speedy recovery. I was on heparin for two weeks post-op. I did not take it pre-op. We will save you a seat on the loser bench!! ((Hugs)) Christina

Patty: Good Luck! It is quite common to be given heparin prior to surgery to prevent blood clots even if your lab work is normal. My surgeon will be giving me heparin prior to surgery also. When you are put to sleep, "everything" is put to sleep. Blood therefore doesn't circulate like it normally would and can pool in the lower extremities (legs) and a clot could form. So the heparin is just a prevention measure and not a reason for concern. Hope all goes well. Cathy Ps. I am a nurse

Hey Everone! I am back in action. I wanted to really thank everyone for their positive comments and well wishes. It really helped.I did not tell many people that I was going to do this(lap band)because the first 2 people I told, had horror stories about a 'friend of a friend' that had problems. Everything went well and 2 days post op I'm done with the pain meds. I had an issue with a HUGE gas bubble, but it seems to have worked it's way out.Now I'm just looking at all my size 22 pants and I can't wait to donate them to Salvation Army. I'm just trying to get used to the different feelings in my stomach now. Is it hard to tell when you are full? Right now I am on clear liquids and just feel bloated/gassy when I drink them. I'm not sure how much you can drink before you have filled your pouch? Thanks again, Patty
