I was just wondering what the average time everyone has taken off work or plans to. I stand 8-10 a day. Thank You

Theresa, I took off 1 week from the date of surgery. I guess it depends on your pain tolerance.I felt good after 2 days, but I have heard of people going to work the next day.Why do that to yourself unless you have to?Good Luck. Patty

Unlike the other two responses you have received I took 6 weeks off work. I felt good enough to go back after about 2.5 weeks. What kind of surgery are you having though? That makes a huge difference. I had RNY, Open, not laproscopic. I was in ICU for the first 36 hours (standard by my surgeon). I had surgery on a Monday and was not released from the hospital until Thursday (again, standard by my surgeon). Think about what your surgeon requires when you think about how much time you need to take off. I could not have returned to work without a doctors approval, how soon would he give that to you?

Thank You for your help. I am having laparoscopic banding. I just don't want to push myself and go back to soon. Do you go to a support group around your house? I live in the same general area.

I have been really bad about support group the last few months but as a general answer, YES, I go to Provena St. Joe's in Joliet. It is the third Monday of every month. Let me know if you would like more details. Good luck!!

hi Theresa! congrats on your decision. Like Nancy, I took 6 weeks off. Don't think I needed the 6 weeks, but since I found out it was short term disability, not vacation time I needed to use, I took all they'd give me. One of the things to consider is not necessarily the ability to work ... its getting used to eating, nausea, sometimes new bathroom habits ... so its really an individual thing ... I've heard of people going back to work the following week, so it is really up to you and how you're doing. I really am glad I had the 6 weeks though. Good luck to you! Keep us posted on your progress! Karyn
