Hey Michelle! Congrats! Just like I mentioned on another thread ... I'd be a little worried if you WEREN'T nervous! But hang in there ... Who is doing your surgery, and where? Every surgeon tends to have a different protocol on pre- and post-op eating ... some people have to do liquids for maybe two weeks before and a while after ... personally, I didn't. My surgeon just required we ate "light" the day before and not after 6pm. I also started on liquids, went to pureed (ick), and then started on softer things (thinly shaved deli turkey, etc.) ... within a three week period or so ... BUT, that was MY program. Your surgeon/program should have suggestions for you. Thoughts, cares, and prayers are with ya girl ... Karyn

Congrats Michelle. I had my surgery June of 2005. I went from 255 to 133. Before my surgery, I had no diet restrictions, in fact most people have a "goodbye" dinner. I unfortunately did not do this. I say unfortunately, 'cause after surgery, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EAT!!!! It isn't that you'll be hungry, but for me, well, seeing that I can never really eat the way I used too, I kinda wish I had one last big hoohrah... (you'll know what I mean afterwards!) so, eat your FAVORITE foods in "normal" portions for the very last time. I am not saying that you'll never eat your fav foods again.. but, you will never eat them the "same" again (which is a VERY GOOD THING!)... day before surgery, I had a liquid diet, but up till then, reg. stuff. Day of surgery - What a day! You'll be scared and nervous and excited all in one. Things you should take that really do help: a cd player or IPOD with soothing music, as you may or may not be aware, the hospital if a VERY NOISY place, and the only thing you really want to do when your not up and walking is to sleep. (I had OPEN RNY, no complications) and I didn't really have any pain either (but then again, I hit that morphine button every chance I got!) Umm.. what else to bring - toothpast/brush, BOOKS or some mags to read. Not sure how long they keep lap patients, I was in the Hospital for four days. A pen and writing pad to keep track of your feelings, etc. Just relax, breath, and think of all the wonderful things that await you. YES, things ARE different on the "other side!"
