I have been trying to call the Carle Clinic but can't seem to get through (for 2 days) I refuse to give up no matter what is thrown my way...... No one i know is being supportive not even DH so its hard to talk or ask for advice from anyone about WLS...thanx for listening........ (((((hugs)))))

My insurance also had an exclusion for WLS, however, with co morbidities, they did approve it. I just have to fight them every time I go for a follow up visit, or have labwork... You might want to check that out if you have co morbids, I was diabetic.

Kenna I was on IL Medicaid when I had my surgery.. I now have BCBS - Fed. Anyway if I remember correctly they required you to be minimum 100 lbs overweight and a BMI of 45 or more. I dont think I even had to have co-morbs. As far as you DH not being supportive.. you might want to gently work on that now because honestly as this progresses your gonna need that support. Sit down with him one night and talk to him find out what it is.. find out what his fears are.. because honestly thats probably most of it his fear of losing you. People die, but it can happen in a car accident as easily as it can having any surgery.. even a appendectomy. I was lucky I was divorced when I had mine. MY husband now has had the surgery too which makes life easier.. Debby

Kenna ~ I had United Healthcare for my insurance and at the time they had an exclusion on my policy. I had medicaid as well. It was very easy to get approval from them. I believe their minimum requirement is to be 100lbs overweight. The difficult part is finding a doctor to take medicaid. You might try the University of Chicago. I hear they are accepting medicaid. As far as the supportive part, I didn't have anyone supportive either. I found my best support here. Debbie was one of the greatest supporters I had. She helped me through every step of the way. I don't know if I could have done it without her. Shelley

Hello Michelle. Can you tell me a little more about the process? I have medicaid as well and I was originally told that medicaid doesnt cover the lapband. So i went on the internet and found a couple surgeons that advertised that they did the lapbands but when i called to make an appointment, i was told that they dont accept public aid anymore. So if you could point me in the right direction that would be wonderful. Thanks Dorey
