Hi wendi, my name is lisa. I had the DS in April 06 at the university of chicago. The first thing they have you to do is come in for a consultation with nurse, then they give you a return appointment to come back to see the surgeon, the nutritionist, and the psychiatrist. They all have a meeting the following Wednesday to see if they feel you are a candidate for the surgery. You should receive a letter in the mail in about 2 wks. Then they submit to your insurance for approval. If approved you will get scheduled for surgery, pre op meeting, and whatever other trest and procedures that you May need. I am so glad I had the surgery there. They follow up with you, they don't just cut you and leave you habging in the wind like I have heard that other places do. I had my DS last year so the process May have changed but I recommend them whole heartly. Not to mention Dr. Prachand is finnnnnnnnneeee!!!!!

If you have medicaid RUN RUN away! they told me 4-6 when i went to the informational session. Well it has been 8 months and now i am number 40 on the list still. they take 4-8 patients off the list each month. now this is just to meet with the Dr to see if you are approved. then who know how long after that. Now if you have surgery they put you at the top of the list and you get done fairly quickly! good luck to you. I also have heard people having problem's with them having you eat solid food before you leave the hospital instead of a liquid diet. Also one lady was accidentally giving reg Popsicles and jello instead of sugar free and she was SO sick. when you register you have to do it on remedy and it is 125.00 fee they double billed me and everyone at the informational session. but the fees were reversed. once you register you can post on their message board and get more info there as well just some info dee

This is the letter i just sent to u of c on the website this was my experience with them and how I feel and I do know someone else who had the same problem and went with another surgeon. best of luck to you in anything you decide!! Hi I feel like I was lied to when I went to the informational session. I was told Not implied that I would meet with the surgeon in 4-6 months. now being 8 months I call and after arguing I finally find out I am still number 40 on the waiting list. That means I will have at least 5 more months. So with that being said I actually must thank you because I am now going with Dr Constantine Frantzide Who is sooo Awesome and talented, I will be having surgery in 3 weeks. Sure beats waiting another year. The best part about it is my surgeon use to be the director at the u of c
