Support groups
I get asked every once in a while about where I go for support group or where there are groups in the Chicago and suburban area. I thought to start a thread to give newbies and POs a list of groups that are available to people. List the date(s) it meets, time, if open the public, if there is a charge if open to the public and any other info that you can think of. I can think a two support groups. The first is my doctor's office in Downers Grove 2801 Finley Rd, it meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7 PM. You will need to contact the office to find out about what they charge for the general public to attend. 630 261 9393. Here is their link http://www.lifeweighbariatrics.com/
The second one I can think of is with the Kane Center or also called Suburban Surgical Care Specialists. They have several different groups and I have added their link for this so you can review it. They meet at ABMC in Elk Grove Village. They do charge a $10 co-pay per meeting. They have 3 different groups with one being for lap band patients. http://www.suburbansurgicalcare.com/cosmetic_surgery_pgs/support.html
These are the only two that I am aware of. Here is a link for this site's info on support groups. It covers the whole state. The info on this link is for e-mail contacts for leaders across IL that have info on support groups. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/viewAllStateEvents.php?State=IL Also on the left side of this IL page is a link that is titled "Events" which is about 1/2 down in the blue box click that and it will give you a list of events. It also covers seminars that have been scheduled.
Those of you that live in other areas of IL come on in and add your info also. I am sure there are POs that would be interested in what is going on near them.

Here is some additional info that was provided by Hollie regarding GSH in Barrington's support group.
The support group at Good Shepherd hospital meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7:30pm. It is in a meeting room inside the actual hospital. Kind of hard to explain. The front desk is very nice and can instruct you where to go. There is no charge for this hour/hour and a half session. It is usually run by a psych nurse at the hospital. (She knows what's going on in our heads!)
Remember, you do not need to have been a patient at this hospital to attend this support group!
