I think I might be over-loading myself with information. I'm in the infancy stage of obesity surgury. Which is the one with the better overall results? I'm leaning towards R-N-Y.

I guess the answer is....It depends. I highly recommed that you attend a seminar that will go over both procedures and give you an opportunity to get all your questions answered. I orginally was interested in the lap band but changed my mind after the seminar. I had a Lap RNY and for me it was the right decision. But you have to do what's best for you. Good luck. Best regards, Ronna

Ronna, TY for your input. I've been to one RNY meeting. Going to another by another hospital tonight(3-12-07). Like the RNY because theres no one in my area doing lap band. I think it would be a pain for the maintenance.

just my 2 cents Now my Dr said the lab band works for people who don't have a lot of weight or who are older like in there 70+ reason being is he has been doing lap band in Europe longer then it has been available here and Most people gain the weight back and end up having revisions. Now he says if he wanted to make money he should do that because of revisions but he is more concerned with the lasting value and health of his patients. The only reason he says OK for older patients is because they wont live long enough to see the majority of weight gain. You really have to research and see what will be best for you. I am having lap rny on April 2nd. good luck to you on your journey to great health.

HI, I have had a lap band for 4 months and have lost 50 pounds. WIth all due respect to the above poster what she is saying simply is not true. Google some actual studies that compare weight loss between the two. You will find that with RNY you will lose faster but at the 5 year mark they are tied. Most people do NOT gain the weight back. You will find failures with both and there have been just as many RNY'ers who have since been banded. Here, you will get opinions - if you want the facts there is a lot of data out there which could help you with your decision. gook luck!

Like I said this is my 2 cents and all I did was tell you what my surgeon told me when I met with him. He has written 2 book on the subject and has been doing the lap band here and over seas for over 15 years. I know lots of people who have had great results with lap band and many who have not. I lot of information especially in America has not had a long study because it has not been here in the state as long. Good luck with your decision just make sure it is what you really want. And yes a lot of people do gain weight back and more with lap band then rny. But if you do not use your tool positively you can and will gain weight with any weigh loss surgery.
