Anyone here in southern Il herrin area?
Hi Sandra, I am from Murphysboro and I dont have much info at this time. I am still gathering the needed paperwork for insurance. My last hurdle is my psych eval on Monday. After that it is off to insurance. I am going through Dr Scott from St. Charles Mo only 2 hours from here. If there is anything in particular you are needing help with I will try. Good luck.........

Thanks,
I was wondering why dont they submit to ins first?
If your ins says no youve wasted all that time and money on all the pre op stuff? Im afraid to begin all that stuff then something happen and me spend a year waiting and assumming I will get the surgery snd jumping through all the hoops only to be turned down after a year. Does that make sense maybe im over reacting.I dont know nothings working out like id hoped.
Hi Sandra,
I live in Carbondale and had RNY surgery in Paducah by Dr. Alex Argotte. He is a wonderful surgeon. My surgery was on 12/29/06 and as of today I have lost 60 pounds. I have gone from a size 4X to a 1X in 2 1/2 months! But don't be fooled and think that this is easy.
There is alot of preop testing you have to have done - a psychiatric evaluation, EGD (stomach scope), bloodwork, and depending on your medical condition now, perhaps pulmonary function tests, sleep studies, etc.
One month before my surgery was to be performed, Dr. Argotte has you on what they call the "liver diet". This is a no salt diet. This is intended to shrink your liver so that the surgery will easier to do. The liver lies over the portion of the stomach that will become your pouch. This diet consists of all fresh vegetables, fruits, fish & meat. You can have nothing from a can, box, bottle or bag as those items contain high amounts of sodium. You can usually lose up to 20 pounds on this diet if you stick to it. It does make your surgery easier.
Three days before and 10 days after surgery I was on clear liquids, then progressed to cream soups with ground up meat, yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs etc. However, I have developed a large ulcer where the intestine meets the stomach pouch so I have not really been able to eat normal food as of yet. I began bleeding from this ulcer and have had 3 EGD's since then because of subsequent bleeding and scar tissue forming from the ulcer healing and shrinking the opening from the stomach pouch to the intestine. But, I keep moving along because after this ulcer heals everything will be fine.
You cannot drink carbonated beverages after this surgery for one year at least as well as any alcoholic drinks. Rice will gum up in your stomach so stay away from that. You will find that meat is not easily digested after having the surgery. Beef is the hardest to digest. You can easily eat deli meat that is sliced very thin to get your protein in. My doctor recommends 80 grams of protein daily. You will be drinking protein shakes for part of your protein intake.
There is alot of information you need to take into consideration before doing this and I suggest that you read everything you can get your hands on. I would be more than happy to answer and questions you may have. My user name on OH is cyndirene. My e-mail address is [email protected] if you have a question.
Good luck in your venture and listen to what your doctor says.
