A little nervous about having open gastric bypass
Well I am a little nervous about having the open gastric by pass procedure done. I have recently gotten approved by my insurance company. I have a very well renowed Dr. but I still cant shake the fact that I am going to be cut open.... :-( I have contacted my Dr. and am in the process of setting up a surgery date. If anyone can help me with shaking this feeling it is greatly appreciated. I know all about the complications and the successes. I would probably feel more at ease hearing form peopl who have already had this procedure done....
I am not going to sugar coat it for you, it does hurt. I am not sure what to tell you other than I do have a pretty high tolerance for pain so I was not out and out in horrible pain. What you need to do is talk to your doctor directly about your fears and make arrangements for good pain management when you are still in the hospital and home. Most doctors will order a PCA (patient controlled analgesic). You have control of giving yourself your pain meds. Most pumps are set up to give a dose every 6 minutes. There are other pain management arrangements that can be done, some type of a pain blocker. But I am not too familiar with it.
