Question for those that are interested . . .
uh oh ... I had visions of you sending a police escort to take me to the hospital!
Anyway ... YES ... I did go through with it Friday (although I'm now debating with myself whether I really needed to or should have done it). They released me Saturday evening, about 7:30pm (although my bowels hadn't moved nor had I passed gas, but I talked them into letting me go). Then came the drain. The doc tried to take out the drain ... I screamed. OMG, I remember it being uncomfortable from gastric bypass, but not PAINFUL. It felt like my insides were ripping. So, this doc called his boss, who tried ... it was like it was stuck (and I screamed more every time he tried). They think that maybe there was a clot at the end of it, because more was draining at the incision (and all over me) than had been draining in the reservoir on the drain. Well, they ended up giving me twice as much morphine AND a local ... and it hurt even more as they pulled on it. My friends who visited heard me screaming as they were down the hall.
SO ... they finally got it out. I was supposed to see the surgeon NEXT Monday (he's conveniently out of town this week), but they told me they wanted me to follow up today or early this week. So, its been a runaound talking to the surgeon's office ... to me the docs Saturday night sounded lik it was important to follow up right away ... and the surgeon's office is just telling me to wait until next Monday, unless I'm in pain.
OK. fine. Whatever.
I was also very disappointed in the nursing/dietary care until we got to the Friday night overnight nursing shift. They were completely awesome. I was on clear liquids all day Friday, but they sent me sugar everything, despite me telling EVERYONE I cannot do sugar. So, in the evening ... an identical tray (with sugar) came again. And I rarely got my meds at appropriate times (some I have to take 1 hour before eating, some with the first bites of food, etc.) ... next time (if there ever IS a next time), I am bringing my own everything. Even nurse if I need to. Sheesh.
So, I'm back working, or getting in what I can.
I'm thinking maybe I should have a "coming out" party for my gallbladder? Whatcha think? lol
Thanks for the encouragement, concern and prayers ... its VERY MUCH appreciated.
Love ya,
Karyn
hey Lucy ... yes, I did go through with it ... I posted details on this thread responding to Christine. I'm actually working today, but most likely won't put in a full day.
I haven't really needed pain meds too much, and I've had no problems walking, stairs, or getting out of bed ... I actually barely feel like anything was done. Its going to be difficult for me to remember to not pick up anything over 7 pounds, or do any kind of exercise for 2-4 weeks.
Oh well ... I can't wait to see you! Thanks SO much for the care, concern, prayers, and hugs ... its VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. You guys are the best!
Love ya lots,
Karyn
Dear Christine:
I am interested in getting together with other WLS patients. I live in Buffalo Grove and weekends would be the best time for me. I think having this at someone's home is the best idea so we won't be rushed.
Sorry about your cat, if you are interested in another one, I volunteer for a cat shelter and I could give you info on our shelter.
Linda
Linda,
Thank you for the offer of a new puddy cat. My husband and I have decided not to get another pet for a few years. We have so many friends, their children or family members that are allergic and they cannot come over to our house. It is the first time in our almost 33 years of being married where we have not had a pet.
I will probably put something on the board early on Tuesday morning regarding a date.
Chris
