when will I feel better??????/
It has been 3 weeks since surgery and I feel awful. So much pain, more so than before. The doc says things are healing and pulling. I even started my pain pills again. I drove yesterday and it killed me,,I couldn't wait to get home and stretch out. This recovery is going slowly. Any suggestions? And.I am sick of baby food. Whatever I puree tastes like baby food....yuck. Sorry for complaining so much, but I just needed to vent.
Complain away, you are entitled to it. I do not remember that far back to how I felt at 3 weeks out but I remember my sister having her lap RNY last Sept. and it took her quite a bit of time to get back on her feet. She was still in pain at the same time frame and really tired. Give yourself time. Remember you are not getting as much protein into you and that can cause you to feel tired also, proer amount of fluids will do the same to me even 4 years out. You might want to touch base with your doctor's office on the pain issue and see what they say. If you are taking narcotic pain pills you really should not drive at all.
Can you have egg salad, canned tuna, chicken, turkey or other meats? You can puree those and they still taste like the salad just a little smoother. How about pureed pot roast or other meats? I had to puree even cottage cheese.
Chris
Thanks Chris. I tried the tuna but it kinda felt "heavy" on me. I will try egg salad again. I am actually reaching my protein goals each day. I guess I am lucky because I really love my protein drinks. My energy level does surprise me.I felt better last week energywise. But, I guess it is a process and I must be patient. It just amazes me when I hear of people going back to work after a few weeks. I just want to crawl into bed and sleep it all away. Thanks for your help
Ah Shar ... different people heal SO differently. Just remember though, you just had MAJOR surgery. Just because you can't see it on the outside doesn't mean something major didn't happen inside.
I never did the baby food. I bought a bunch before surgery, but just couldn't do it. I was on soft foods (cottage cheese, soups, yogurt, etc). the first week and a half or so, then they started letting us have shaved deli turkey with cheese (and I melted cheese on EVERYTHING I could). I think I also lived on sugar-free popsicles the first several months after surgery. Are you getting protein in? Are you drinking shakes? You're probably mourning food, and experiencing head hunger (geez, I used to CRY at Pizza Hut commercials) ... but one of my staples ended up being melted cheese (the tops of pizza ... no crust). But, that was just MY program ... you should probably consult your doctor first.
You are probably still feeling the effects of the anesthesia, and it may take some time until you're up and running. You might have bursts of energy, but you will also tire quickly. This is perfectly natural. Hang in there ... it DOES get better ... if you can walk around a bit, that will help too. Just a note about the protein -- it promotes healing, so you will heal faster if you are getting in the recommended protein (or at least try to work up to it).
Hang in there ... its perfectly fine to vent ... this isn't exactly flying a kite.
Take care,
Karyn
Karyn,
What a funny image.your staples being the cheese of the pizza. I am not having any head hunger at all. I think I would be perfectly happy to drink my protein drinks forever. Eating scares me a bit. I have learned from all you wonderful people that I need to be patient. I will try my best to do that
Shar
Sorry you're still feeling crummy. It took me a couple of months before I felt better. At your stage I ended up back in the hospital with a wound infection at my drain site - I was really feeling like Sh%#.
But it does get better day by day. Try some low fat cottage cheese with apple sauce or even a scrambled egg with melted cheese on it. I also hated the pureed stage and couldn't wait to get past it.
So hang in there sweetie ---- it will get better
Sending hugs,
Ronna
