Continue to be FAT

I don't want to continue on being fat but I live in Southern Illinios and I have the Illinios public aid card medicaid and NOBODY around here will take it to do the lapband surgery............I don't know what else to do. I am so sick and depressed about being fat I am 5 foot 7 inches and right at 385 or more in weight I am tired of this I can't get down in the floor and play games with my kids and I can't run outside with them it is all I can do to take a short walk with them and we are planning a vacation of WALKING I don't know what I am going to do. I am so sad and depressed I don't know what else to do. Any help or support in this would be wonderful. Thank you so much I am so sad I am sick to my stomach and to top it off I am dealing with my Mother having cancer right now NOT GOOD

Hi Kimberly - Is RNY not an option for you? Only you can make that decision however, In my opinion, because of the weight you are currently at, I would go w/ RNY over Lap Band. Again.. only my opinion. I was 404 the day I had my surgery so yes, my dear, I can relate to the depression and the feelings you are having. I beleive there are people on the IL board that have had surgery w/ the public aid card. If I recall correctly, The University of Chicago takes Public Aid cards. Please check it out. I'm sorry to hear about your mother. I will say a prayer for both of you. Know that you are not alone.. many of us on OH have been or are in your shoes. You've come to the right place for support. Hello im in souther il as well. I research the lap band some and decided it wasnt right for me. From the things I read at my size 306 it might not be as sucessful as the rny would be. Im afraid with the lap i would have to have a revision eventually. Im going to my consult today with doctor Vitello in chicago im on medicaid also and he will accept it 100% for the rny only. he said the ins normally wont cover lap band

Dr.Vitello is a saint....!!! I had him and he is wonderful....

HI KIMBERLY I ALSO LIVE IN THE SOUTHERN HALF OF ILLINOIS AND YOU ARE RIGHT NOBODY AROUND WILL TAKE THE IPA CARD. I HAD TO LOOK HIGH AND LOW AND GET SOME HELP, BUT I FOUND A DOCTOR IN GURNEE ILLINOIS RIGHT OUTSIDE OF CHICAGO WHO TAKES IT, HE DOES BOTH THE LAP BAND AND RNY ON PUBLIC AID. BUT AS OTHERS HAVE TOLD YOU WITH THE LAP BAND WEIGHT LOSS IS MUCH LESS AND IT WASN'T FOR ME I AM DIABETIC AND THE SURGEON SAID THE RNY WILL BE BEST FOR ME AND THAT I WILL MOST LIKELY BE FREE OF MY DIABETES WITHIN ONE MONTH OR SO. ALSO WITH THE LAP BAND YOU WILL NEED FILLS AND SINCE YOU ARE IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AND HE IS IN GURNEE THAT WON'T WORK OUT TO GOOD FOR YOU, IF YOU WANT HIS INFO LET ME KNOW THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO ALSO TAKES IT BUT THE WAITING LIST IS ABOUT 6 MTHS OR SO OUT FOR AN CONSULT, AND MY DOCTOR GOT ME IN FAIRLY QUICK ....
