Hello, I have read many of the messages and profile and find all of them very inspiring. I am 38yrs., 265lbs 5'4 inches. Obesity runs in my family although I didn't start gaining weight till I made 30. My health isssues include, Psoriatic arthritis, Obstructive sleep apnea and asmtha! I have been struggling with my weight for the past 8 years I started gaining weight and no matter what I do I don't loose a pound. I may "look" smaller but the scale doesn't move! I don't want to wake up one day weighing 300 pounds and I feel that this is the only choice left for me but don't know what to expect from this first visit. I have talked to many people who feel that I am not Big enough to have this surgery but I know that my health is at risk. I welcome any thoughts or advice. I wish I had done this three years ago when I was 235!

Hi Monica - Congratulations on taking the first step to a healthier you. Your consultation will be fine. I'm not sure who your surgeon is or how the process goes but for me it was approx 4hrs long. They did a lot of testing right off the bat. EKG, Chest X-ray, A few different TV Training training programs, a little bit of reading, I met w/ the surgeon and he explained my options and had me decided which surgery I felt was best for me. He did not make that decision. I met w/ the dietician, and the fitness advisor. Don't let your friends or family try to influence you to not have this surgery. For them to say your not big enough is not accurate. Your BMI is high enough to qualify for the surgery and then on top of that, you have co-morbilities. I too wish I had done this a long time ago. I waited until I was a miserable 404lbs! Keep us posted on how things progress. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Christina

You have made a wonderful decision. looking into this surgery may save your life. As for the people who say you are not "big enough" that is their opinion, they don't have to wake up in your shoes ever day. You need to talk with the surgeon, research the options, throw a little prayer in for good measure, and do what is best for YOU! Good luck in everything! Sandy
