6 month supervised diet
The 6 month supervised diet is the only standing between me and my approval. I am having a hard time with this and need some help! I went to my reg doc and she said just walk more and write down what you eat. OK, that doesn't sound supervised. I saw a dietician and she didn't have a lot of knowledge on what was needed. I've been going to Overeaters Anonymous for 10 years, but that isn't really "supervised". Is anyone near Sycamore or Rockford, IL and have ANY ideas how to fulfill this 6 month requirement? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Hi, for the 6 month diet requirement, I have seen the dietician and an exercise specialist, also have to journal everything I eat and when and how much exercise, also what mood I am in. I have to have a page for every day for a month, after which I have an appointment to go in and get weighed once each month. Never skip a month as then it has to start all over. As my insurance says 6 consecutive months. When I go in I get weighed and we discuss what I have been eating, how much exercise, what type of exercise, and any other questions or concerns. The insurance company wants to see everything documented, also make sure you are seeing the Dr for just that as you wanted it documented as such. You also need to be weighed by your Dr or dietician once a month. I hope this helps. I am down one month of dieting with 5 more to go. Good Luck.
Gina,
Do not feel bad, just because I know what they want and I am following their guidelines, doesn't mean I am not struggling as well. I don't quite understand what I am doing wrong. I do know if I don't lose something by next weigh in I am going to be in a lot of trouble. I do know that no matter what diet I go on it is very hard for me to lose weight. If it wasn't I wouldn't be trying to get GB surgery. How far are you into your 6 month diet?
did they require anything else besides the 6 month diet. i got some paper work today
it said ..
1. nutritional therapy which many incluce medical nutrition therapy such as a low cal diet as Medifast or optifast OR a recognized commercial diet-based weight loss as Weigh****chers, Jenny Craig, ect.
2. counseling and instruction on exercise
3. Pharmacologic therepy... (not sure what that is)
4. ongoing support for lifestyle change to make and maintain appropiate choicesthat will reduce health risks.
5. behavior modification
I do have BC/BS IL mine is a PPO. They do require you to do some type of supervised low calorie diet plan. Also they want to know you are exercising, what you are doing and for how long. I have to journal everything I eat, drink, how much I exercise, what I am doing for exercise and my feelings. What time I eat etc. They want to know you are really trying your best. Also I have to bring my journal in each time I am weighed and get more journal papers. I am weighed every month and have to speak with the Dr. You do have to make sure you go once each month or they will make you start over. The Pharmacologic therapy is Diet pills, ones the Dr can prescribe like for example Meridia. I can't take anything like that, so I have no worries there. Your surgeons office should know what you need and be able to answer if you have more questions. Each insurance has their own rules, but mainly require the same things. Hope that helps.
