Any tips on drinking Impact pre-op
I have to drink this nutritional supplement for one week b/4 surgery and I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to make it a little more palatable? I am still awash w/mixed feelings about all of this- I know I am making the right decision to try and improve my health , but the /dr's keep stressing the negative aspects to my family and my daughters are in tears and scared whitless they are going to lose their mom. It breaks my heart to see them so conflicted, but I keep telling myself when they see me healthier and less dependent on so many drugs and other crutches they wil see they were just worry warts. 10 days to a new life!
Hi Janet -
I'm really excited about your upcoming surgery. Just remember, you have to do this for you. It's common for family members to be concerned but they will come around once the realize that this is going to help you live a long, healthy, happy life.
as far as the nutritional spplement... I can't help you out there. I did not have to drink anything like that.
Good Luck to you!

Sorry, I cannot help you on the drink. My husband has the same WLS surgeon as you and did not have to do that.
Which doctors are being so non WLS supportive? If you are talking about the pulmo doc (Dr H) they send you to then I can understand, that man is as negative as they come. My DH practically had to beg him to be approved for surgery.
Don't worry you are in good hands at the Kane Center. Keep coming here for support, someone will be here to help.

Hi Janet. I had to drink Impact prior to my WLS almost two years ago. When I had to take it, I had to mix it with water. I believe now you get it pre-mixed.
At first I hated it. But within a day or two I got used to the flavor and enjoyed drinking it. I had one in the morning and one at night. I figured that it was good for me, boosting my immune system in preparation for the most important surgery of my life. I was very diligent and completed all 7 days. I know you have to be finished with it two days before surgery as you are on clear liquids the day before surgery.
I would say drink it cold. At first it tastes strange but it is amazing how fast you can acquire a taste for it. I'd rather drink that, then chance getting an infection.
Congrats on your new upcoming lifestyle! It only gets better from here on.

I had to drink Impact pre-op. I found that if I kept them in the refrigerator they weren't too bad. They come like a "juice box" so i just drank them down as fast as I could. They don't taste too bad but have the consistence of condensed milk - very thick. Knowing where they were leading, I had no problem drinking them.
I also went through the Kane Center and everyone there has been great. Good luck in your journey.
Make sure you get the chocolate. The vanilla is
Then make sure it's really cold and just chug it. It's not that awful and 10 days will go by really fast.
Keep telling yourself how good it is for you.
And after losing over 120 poulds the only regret I have about this surgery is that I didn't do it 20 years ago.
Best of luck for an uneventful surgery and a smooth and easy recovery.
Regards and hugs,
Ronna
