I get to start my insurance approval waiting game, and let me just say, I am totally terrified. I transferred insurance companies from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of illinois to EBMS (the company I work for is self-insured) and have only been with the new one for about a week now.I'm worried that EBMS will consider this a pre-existing condition, anyone have any experience with this company? Any advice on how to make this process a little less nerve wrecking?

Is it a group policy with the employer? When you change insurance from one company to another you usually slide right into that group and you are covered without preexising conditions. I am sure there are exceptions like with cancer and such. But, just some of my rambling thoughts. Find out from your benefits person or call the insurance company itself. Christine

My previous insurance was from my father's employer and the insurance I have now is a policy through my employer. I was going to avoid contacting the benefits person from my company because word and gossip spreads way too fast, and I want to avoid all that, but I think contact the insurance company directly is a great idea, thanks.

I don't know about your specific insurance carrier - but I do have these words of advice. During the approval process be proactive and if you are denied find out why and how you can fix it.  Never just 'leave it up to the doctor's office"    I just received my approval yesterday and found out that the only reason I was denied was because they were missing some documentation that my surgeons office's insurance dept lady did not send (nor request from me or my regular physician).  I could have been done with the actual surgery weeks ago.   At any rate, i found out specificaly what the insurance company wanted and I took it upon myself to get it.  Within 48 hours I was approved.  However, I need to travel early in July so although I'm ready for surgery now - I have to wait till the end of July UUGGHHH! If you are denied don't give up......appeal. Cindy
