Curious about gastric lap band

Hello! I have a friend who has had gastric bypass with wonderful results. However I don't think I can because I have Crohn's disease. (I  am probably the only fat Crohn's patient in America!) Anyway, I am researching gastric banding. How quickly does the weight come off? I have read anywhere from really fast to only a pound a week.  I need to lose about 120 lbs.  Thanks!!!

My dr told me to expect anywhere from 1 to 2 pounds weekly. So far since surgery I have lost 16 pounds, I had surgery March 2 2007.  He also said if I eat 6 meals daily and no more then 1/2 up of food at each meal, and get in all my water, and exercise at least 30 to 45 min daily I would lose weigh at a steady rate.  But it really depends on the person on how fast or how slow it comes off. If I exercise and eat the proper foods and amounts I have better loses, if I get lazy it comes off slow.

No you are not the only Crohns patient with a weight problem, my niece has difficulty with her weight also and has Crohns. You will need to do a lot of research to find out the feasability for you to get the band. I have seen other members on the Q & A post similar questions. I am sure there are doctors out there that will do it. Search around the site here and see what kind of info you can find and also maybe ask on the band board. There are also a lot of band patients right on this board so you can get a lot of questions answered here also. Christine

I had my surgery February 19, and I have lost 45 lbs.  I have a 10cc band with 7.5cc's in it.  My doctor told me the same thing about 1-2 lbs a week, but don't be shocked if after surgery until they start the fill process that you could possibly gain a little.  Up until this last fill, I maintained my weight for 2 months.  Got a little frustrated, but now I think this last fill is working for me.

I thought I was the only fat Crohn's patient in America!  Pleased to meet you! :) I am researching the same thing.  I have about 150 lbs to lose if I want to get down to where I technically should be. So if anyone knows the answer, I'm just as interested in learning it too!
