Everyone, please help me people just don't seem to want to respond and help a fellow post op patient a teen post op patient at that. Anyway did anybody experience post op diarreah, migraines and heavy periods. If so, how long did they last for. Also, if you are over 4 years out do you have any complications. If so what are they?? I am so starting to regret my decision thinking that I traded in some health problems for more severe ones. I am so scared and upest right now. I am one wk out from surgery have diarreah and hear it doesn't go away. I also just got my period and I am so afraid that from what I read they are heavy crampy and horrible, mine were like that before I was hoping they wouldn't be like that forever. The thought of migraines however is scary since i had pretty bad ones b4, i had the surgery hoping they would go away not increase. And as a teen I don't want smelly stinky diarreah all the time or at all for that matter. God I am so scared I may have made the worst mistake of my life. Guys help me please.  LIZ            PLEASE

Liz, I would strongly recommend that you contact your doctor.  Dr. Frantzides and his staff will assist you with any post op issues that you may have.  While people on this board can share their own experiences, you really need to speak to your doctor, regarding your questions as well as the medical conditions you refer to. People on this board are very supportive and always willing to help.  No one discriminates against anyone least of all age related.  While we may have had surgery, we are not doctors.  Dr. Frantzides has a service and you can reach them at all hours.  They will take a message and relay your concerns.  I never had a problem with someone calling me back post op.

Best Wishes,

Mary

Liz, I have not been around much due to being on vacation so I have not ignored you. Sometimes  people do not have anything to contribute so they do not post anything, they are not ignoring you.  Now, Mary said to contact your doctor and I agree. If you are on a liquid diet right now you may have the runs because think of it this way "water in = water out". You are not putting anything solid into your intestinal track for solid to come out.  As far as periods, sorry I am in menopause. Also, do not believe everything that you read because for the most part what you are reading on the boards is from non medical professionals, ALWAYS go to your doctor first for information of this sort. I am not sure why you thought that when you were PO your menstral issues and migraines would change.  Now, onto your question about being 4 years out. I am just over 4 yrs out and my DH is coming up on his 4 yr surgiversary in Sept. WE HAVE HAD NOT COMPLICATIONS. Now, that by no means does not mean that we could develope any in the near future, we are not exempt from this issue but we both have great follow up care and I do believe that that is the key to us staying complication free. You have a fantastic doctor from what I understand because I have met Mary W and that is her doctor also. From what I understand he is well liked by his patients and is very knowledgeable in his field. So, put your mind to rest with your questions and give his office a call. An early PO should always contact their doctor with any questions they might have. Smooches, Christine

Hi Liz - I'm sorry you are going thru a difficult time.  Many have the same feelings you are having at this stage.  It does get better.  You may be regretting it now but I bet in a month you will be so happy you whent thru w/ it.  Just hang in there, follow the diet your surgeon/nutritionist outlined for you and you will be fine.  I too experienced the diarreah the first week or so but like Christine mentioned, water in - water out.  Make sense.  I don't have that problem now so this should pass.  As far as heavy periods, migrains.  I get the depo shot every three months and no longer have periods.  Love it.  Oral contraceptives are typically not a safe solution for birth control post op so I chose the shot.  There are quite a few other options out there that may help with your cycle.  I used to get migrains a lot pre-op.  Very seldom do I get them now.  I'm not sure why I don't get the as often.  Maybe I'm learning to deal with stress differently.  I just had my surgery on 8/30/06 so I do not have any feedback on the longterm complications.  I'm just going to take thing one day at a time and take care of me.  You can't control the future so why worry about it. Take Care, Christina

Liz, In time it will get better. I am 7 weeks out and at times I thin I may have made a mistake but then I think about how much better I feel or that I am off all of my meds for my diabeties and high blood pressure. Just keep looking forward and rember why you choose to have the surgery in the first place. Good luck on your journey and welcome to the loosing bench. Mike

Liz I have the IUD and it is awesome !! I had very heavy bleeding before now I an bleed free!! I have had mine for 3 years and it is good for 5 then I will take it out and put a new one in. oh wait they don't recommend it if you have never had a kid. well there are other solutions. I wish I kept beater journals because you sound just like me during the first month. It will get better! I had diareaah for the first month and once I was more on solids it went away.  I don't have it now. There are many people long term post op and have no problems. There was a lady on the rny message board how has many 5 ,10 and more years in her aftercare program. You might want to post on the board as well because there are more people on all stages there. You also might want to check the June surgery board. I am part of the April surgery board and we have a great support system where we all are going Thur the stages together. You can come there to most of us are 2 months out.  I wish the best and you know I will always answer your post once read it. hug to you  Dee

Hi Liz, By the way my daughter is named Liz also. Great name!!!!! I to went thru what you are going thru the first month after surgery. I am over 5 years out.  Your body is just adjusting to the surgery and your new life. Go with the flow. I agree call your doc and ask him about your concerns. He is there to support you too and help you. Being over 5 years out I still have days where I am having problems like Migraines, I had them real bad b4 the surgery where It was so bad I was put in the hospital. Now they are just a few and I can tolerate them without medicine. As for the periods I dont know that answer cause I had a hysterectomy at the age of 29 and that was in 1984. Im 52 now. You did not make the worst mistake in your life. You will be healthier in the end and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Chicago land area or Illinois. It is a beautiful place. I grew up near there in Michigan. Live life to the fullest. Carla Klein Bradenton Florida 267 130 150 Day of surgery 267 Current weight 130 Goal weight 150

Liz call the doc about the diarea problem and your gyny about the heavy bleeding. You've got to remember that you are only one week out of having major surgery.  Sure you feel crummy.  I did too. But you will start to feel better day by day.  Just keep thinking about how great you are going to feel and look next summer! I think it took me about a month or so to really start to feel GOOD.  And now almost 18 months out, I feel great! The only regret that I have is that this surgery wasn't available to me when I was your age.  How much more life I would have been able to live. Best of luck to you and keep on posting your questions.  You will get answers and support here.
Regards and hugs,

Ronna
