My Dr prefers Lap band over RNY

Hi there! For me i personally picked the lap-band because its what i could afford (my insurance doesnt cover any weight loss surgery) and i felt that it was a safer choice.  I will be 2 years out in September.  I actually go to Clinton too but i see Dr. Tull.  I have lost around 75lbs or so now it could be a lot more if i would actually follow the rules.  With RNY you will loose most of your weight in that first year with lap-band you loose about 1-2 lbs a week but in 5 years you will come out the same as an RNY patient.  Of course with any surgery there are always risks but with lap-band there is less risks than RNY.  What you should do is just do research on both options and weigh the negatives and positives of both.  If you have any questions feel free to ask me.

I'm a patient of Dr. Rohrsheib too and he's told me the same thing about the lap band. I have RNY and I'm not dissappointed at all. The more I hear about the lap band from testimonys, I'm really quite afraid that if I had made the choice, I wouldnt be happy. Its a difficult decision to make no matter what you do to yourself surgically.

I do know, RNY was definately the way for me to go.

btw.... Dr. Rohrshieb is AWSOME. I cant wait for this profile technical issue to get fixed so I can start filling things out and fixing my page!!

Did Dr Syd do your RNY?  Open or Laprascopic?   He told me he has stopped doing them as a laprascopic procedure.  I am sure I would be happy with RNY, but it looks like Lap band is what I can get done in this area.  I think I will be ok w/Lap band.  I already have a changed mind set about food, and eating.    I do see why they make you go on a 3 or 6 mo pre op diet When did you go back to work?    What Ins did you have?   How much have you lost so far?

I went back to work after 6 weeks and doing just fine.

I have Personal Care which mine specifically would not cover lap band. why I dont know but, thats the cards I was delt.

so far, i'm 8-9 weeks post op and have lost 70 lbs.  I have joined curves and doing fabulously on my feet now :)

yes, i would love to have new friends added.
