Newbie- surgery this Thursday at Alexian Brothers
Hi Newbie - It's time to stop lurking and meet some of your IL neighbors. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. The feelings you are starting to have are very common. Excited, scared, overwhelmed, what if.... You will do just fine. Let us know a little about you. What type of surgery are you having? This is a great place to give and rcve the support you need. Let us know when you’re back home recovering. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way for an uneventful surgery and quick recovery. Christina
Hi there! You've got a great doc, Dr. Wallace. I had Dr. Guske a partner of his. They are both great surgeons. A friend of mine had Dr. Wallace for her WLS and she did very well. It's only normal to have the feelings that you are having now.
I had the same feelings before my surgery. I know I made the right decision for me. You will do just fine. Come here often for support and for any questions you have. Keep us posted on your WLS journey!
Hugs,
Lucy

I had my surgery at Alexian almost 18 mos ago. Boy has the time flown by.
You have a great Doctor and a great group behind him you will be just fine!!!!!!
Just follow instructions and keep thinking about next summer when you will be healthier and thinner and how great that will be!!!!!
Remember to take carmex or chapstick with you and a pair of slippers with good tred that are easy to get on and off and maybe your own pillow. You will have everything else you need at the hospital.
Enjoy the nice weather in the meantime.
Regards and hugs,
Ronna

Hi there. I have not been around this past week due to being in WI so I missed most of the posts. Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a regular on the board so you will be seeing my face and my husband's with mine. I just wanted to say that my DH had Dr Rantis and your doc Wallace assisted at his WLS almost 4 yrs ago. You will do fine. You have a great group of caring doctors and support staff. Let us know how things go.

I have my lap band surgery scheduled with Dr. Wallace for 7/24/07. Our family has been patients of this group of surgeons since the 1980's when Dr. Kane Senior was still performing surgeries (this was way before they became a bariatric group). Dr Kane Senior and his son, Dr. Kane Junior performed surgery on my son and I. We have received excellant care from this group.
I like Dr. Wallace and I'm sure he is a fine surgeon. Dr. Kane would not have any associates that weren't excellant surgeons. This practice has been around for YEARS and I trust them completely. Also, I have had several stays at Alexian Brothers and have NEVER had a bad experience. You are in good hands.
What I always do when facing something scarey is focus on something in the future beyond the scarey time. You are having surgery June 28th so set your sites on Saturday June 30th. The surgery will be done - you will be much more comfortable - you will be pampering yourself as you recover. Then think a little farther down the road...one week...two weeks....two months....next year this time. Think how wonderful you will look and feel. And the best part...think how proud of yourself you will be.
It is natural to freak out but try not to focus too much on the next two days or you will be a basket case by Thursday ! Focus on Saturday.
Good luck and let us know how you are doing.
