Can anyone tell me about Dr. Brian Boe??

Hi. I'm from Pennsylvania, a patient at the local Barix Clinic.  I was just informed that my intended surgeon has left the practice and was offered to be seen by Dr. Brian Boe or other doctors still at the clinic.   I understand that Dr. Brian Boe used to practice in Illinois.  I'm hoping some of you post-ops who were Dr. Boe's patients could tell me something about him, the type of procedure (open. lap, band) you had, and your general experience with him or any knowledge you may have of him -- good, bad or indifferent..... all thoughts are very welcome! Thanks so much for taking the time to read this, and hopefully to respond.  I was originally scheduled for surgery about 4 weeks from now, and now I'm in a total conundrum as to how to proceed, if I should even have the surgery at Barix.  I really need all the input I can get to make the best choice possible. -- Bern

Dr Boe took out my gallbladder, on DEC 27 2006 just before they shut down the clinic here in Illinois. I am glad they shut it down before I let him do my lap band because its hard to find a dr to do filld if they did not do the surgery. I thought he was a fine dr.

He practiced here in IL before Barix closed their clinic down earlier this year. He was very well liked by his patients here. There are members of this board that pop in every once in a while that had him and hopefully someone will see your post. I am not sure if he has a profile here on OH anymore (I think he does) you can find members to PM and also ask your question. Christine

My girlfriend had him do her RNY.  She loved him!!!  She is doing very good and looks great!  I would have gone to him because the clinic was 10 min from house, but they close down!  SOOO Sad!!!! Kim

PLEASE think hard about seeing Dr. Boe or anyone else from Barix. I had my surgery 9/10/01. I had it with Dr. Roy Berkowitz.. According to a local lawyer, there are 13 deaths and 19 lawsuits against him. I did not contact a lawyer prior to the statute of limitations ending and I cannot sue him. However, he has ruined my health and my life. Barix has closed all but the PA location. It's my understanding they moved one surgeon there to keep the office going. I would advise you check with the Illinois medical board about any lawsuits pending. Also, how many deaths and major complications. If you need to speak with the lawyer in Rockford, IL, I will get you her phone number. Please think carefully about it.. I thought I had researched my choice well. As it turns out, I was very wrong. I'm lucky. I did not die. But many others did. And there are many of us here that are forever damaged as a result of our choice. The surgeon I am seeing in Chicago to hopefully fix my mess said that the best choice would be to find a surgeon at a teaching university. They are well educated and are teaching others about the various procedures. If I had it to do over, this is advice I would take. Best of luck, Katherine

I just saw your post asking about Dr. Boe, even though he left before I could get surgery I still had my consult with him. I liked him real well and I also checked him out on anything I could find on the internet......in my opinion he checked out well. In all that said, I do think there were major problems with the clinic and the previous Doctors, there were so many people I know that horrible experiences coming out of there.   Dr. Boe does Lap RNY   hope this helps.                                                                                                                                    Pam

HI ya! I had Dr. Boe do my surgery and I really enjoyed him. He is very knowledgable & personable. He actually did my sister's surgery as well. I was very sad to see him leave the area. I know he wants to eventually move back as this is where his family is.  As far as I understand Dr. Boe was not involved in any of the lawsuits that were filed against the Barix facility in Belvidere. Do your research and be secure in your decision. You have to have faith in your team. Best of luck! Nic 291-161
