Well I have just come back from my final pre op DR appt.  I got the green light and everything is on schedule.  I had some questions though and really I am getting so many different answers.  This doc said I will lose 1/3 of my body weight.  That would be great if thats all I had to lose but its more like 2 thirds.  He said that after that one third my body will stabilize.  I asked him if I would still continue to lose if I stayed on the right track and he did not seem to think so. I have seen so many of you all lose tremendous amounts of weight.  Why shouldnt I expect to lose all of it?  Or at least most of it.   Troubled and confused in Chi-town

my surgeon said I would lose 80% with almost no effort that if I gave 20% I could lose 100% I have lost 35% of my access weight allready and it has been 3 months If that was My 1/3 I would be mad and wondering why I spent so much for surgery.  Maybe he misspoke? what surgery are you having? I think you will be fine!

I was told that I would loose 70-80% of my excess weight. I was told that I had 156lbs of excess weight so that would be 109-125lbs. After 18 months, I have lost 130lbs although most of it was lost within the first 12 months.  And I have seen people continue to loose weight after that time but with much effort. I would like to drop another 20 or so pounds but I know it will be with much effort. I can no longer just sit in the recliner, drining protein shakes and loose weight. The surgery was a tool that was used to loose the majoity of the weight but the rest is going to be up to me. Hope that helps answer your question.
Regards and hugs,

Ronna

Did he say you'd lose 1/3 of your body weight OR did he say 1/3 of your EXCESS weight--there's a difference.  If, say, you weighed 300 lbs. and lost 1/3 of your weight, you'd lose 100 lbs.  However, if you weighed 300 lbs. and let's assume an ideal weight of 150, then you have 150 lbs. of EXCESS weight, and 1/3 of that would be only 50 lbs.  See what I mean?   Either way, though, even if he meant it the first way, I think you can expect to lose more!  My surgeon--and probably the majority of surgeons--predict a loss of at least 70% of the EXCESS weight.  But many people lose way more!  I think technically the surgery is considered to be a "success" if you lose at least 50% of your EXCESS weight--although I think most people would be disappointed with that. Hope this helps clarify a little bit.

Always,
Jo

That seems really low. I would clarify it with him again.  Christine

This was not the first time I heard this from them.  When I had my nut sessions they said the same thing.  It is 1/3 body weight.  So that means if you weighed 600 lbs you would lose 200 and still weigh 400.  I havent seen anyone on this site that didnt lose alot more than that.  IN order for me to get down to a high -normal weight I need to lose 175 lbs.  I will be excersizing as soon as I can.  I am already drinking my protein shakes and not haveing sugar and eating fruit and veggies.  So am I being unreasonable in thinking I can lose all of the weight.
