NEWBIE!!!!

HELLO ALL!!! I am very new to this site!! I am going to see my surgeon on Thursday the 12th, and then the nutrition and welness clinic on firday the 13th. I have just stared my journey about a month agao when I decided enough was enough!! I am 25 yrs old, with a BMI of 46.8. Im married with two wonderful kids, and semi happy.  I am doing this becaue me and my husband want 1 more child before we are thirty, and even though we concieve, I cannot carry a fetus paet 10 weeks because of my weight, and it is hard having miscarriages. Well, I live in Chicago, and I have medicaid insurance. I just want some people to talk to that have gone throght this or are going through it at the same time. What can I expect?? How long does approval take?? Any feed back will be GRATLEY appreciated!!!! have a Blessed day!!

I also have medicade and let me tell ya if they would not have lost my paper work it would have only taken a week for approval mine took little longer but it was well worth the wait. The state requires a 3 month supervised diet. Nutirsystem, atkins, south beach any of them will do as long as it is documented and your dr signs off on it. I had to keep food diary everyday and an excersise log all that plus my couseling and dietician logs. I went through Riverside and they have a set plan that covers all the reqirements for IDPA. You can pm me if you want to talk Later TAra

When I spoke with the nurse, she had told me that I only needed to vcisit the nutrition and welness clinic one time, and that's all they needed to satisfy the requirement. Do you have any co-mobids?? I have a bmi of 47.8, and was told that my weight is enough to qualify for the surgery. What else did u have to do??? I NEED to know!!!!

HEy Lady, Weight is usually all it takes with IDPA as long as you meet the BMI. I have HBP and Hypothyroidism (which was caused from anti depressants). I had to do a sleep study , pulmonary visit, a bunch of lab work (TSH) I had more than usual because they kept checking to see if my thyroid function was stablizing. Now that usrgery is close I am having one more visit and review with my surgeon and a complete physical with one of the hospitals cardiac Dr's. I I had everything I needed to have done in the 3 month time frame if not before since I was already on a supervised diet. and so I used that diet as part of my 3 month they needed.

My appt is for 1145 am on thursday, and i go to the nutrition and wellness clinic on friday @ 11 am. I love this site too!!!! I found out about her from this site as well, because I had dr vitello at first, but I heard he only does the open gastric bypass, and i wanted to get the laproscopically done. The information session was wonderful!!! She answered all of my questions, and I love the fact that she has had 900 cases and not one fatality!!!  I have a buddy now!!!!! I have met her, and she is really, really nice!! I cannot wait to do this!!!! talk to you soon!!!
