I do not drink cows milk and stay away from a lot of dairy other than yogurt a couple of times a month. My questtion is I really like tofu silk fruit smoothies and was wondring if anyone had any other good recipies for tofu also should I have any problems with soy milk after surgery? I drink it when I need to and make popsicles out of the vanilla and the chocolate.   Thanks  Tara

Tara, I do not have a problem with milk and have not tried any of the other products out on the market. My husband and I were talking about getting a small container of the Silk or another lactate free milk to try it. I hope you find info for yourself. Have you tried the cooking and baking or the recipe forums with your question? http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/cooking_baking/   http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/recipe/  Christine

Hi Christine I don't have a problem with milk either the soy milks just taste better and the Chocolate Silk is to die for especially if you freeze for popsicles.  Thanks for the links I have not ventured to those forums but I will now.  Thanks again  Tara

HMMMMM  Thanks Karyn, I also have hypothyroidism and my Dr's have never mentioned that I should stay away from a lot of soy.  Does it make it worse?  I think I  will have to ask them about it. I have been using soy for at least 5 yrs.......  Thanks for that little tid bit now I have some research to do........lol Tara

Hi Tara ... there are certainly differing opinions on the "soy / hypothyroidism" argument ... more docs than not have told me to avoid soy, so I do for the most part.  Here's only one article you may want to look at:  http://thyroid.about.com/cs/soyinfo/a/soy.htm Karyn

Thanks I read it and some other articles and well I am going to speak with my Dr more about on Friday. I am a little concerned. I do not drink a lot of soy but I use a lot of soy product and use a soy protein mixed with a whey protein. Thanks for the heads up Tara
